Ok I know this will get a lot of attention from the title so anywho... i was pulling the mower with my 1984 200es and it started smoking really bad, missing out them shot a ungodly amount of smoke, and it died... it still turns over and i pulled the plug out and there was no spark, stuck the plug in my 185s and there was spark but weak, I figure a new NJK plug wouldnt hurt but last time this happened the spark plug wire snapped on the inside, and i havnt got time to work on it because its not at my house, so id like a fe ideas before i drive out there to go try and fix it

It might be a good time to upgrade your CDI unit. The fact that the plug sparked on your 185 and not on the 200, suggests that you lost spark all together on the 200. Also, check the pulse coil on the flywheel.

What I would do is first check if you have ANY spark at all, new plug, plug from another machine w\e. If no spark, trouble shoot from there, get a multi meter out and OHM the coils and see if they are within spec of the service manual. If all checks out good, then it probably is your CDI box.

I'm more worried about the 'ungodly amount of smoke'

Compression test that engine, was there any oil on that old plug?

Doug i took it into the creek got sand and water in it and changed oil after i went home, it smoked so bad that i thought it was done for but now its burning less and less oil and smoking a lot less then it used 2 the week after i drove it about 8 miles and burned a quart and a half now im driving it a year later and i drove it pulling a 80in mower around for 6 hours and i might have burned a lid off a quart of oil. and it turned out that after a year of riding it like this it just decieded to get a little gunk in-between the electrode and the side of the plug and i didnt see it when i pulled it out the first time.

ps2fixer, it had spark when i put it on my 185s and none on my big red so not sure y it would one and not another.

Also where going to have the motor rebuilt on it in a couple of weeks because it is now replaced are MAX atv as are workhorse of the farm
