It has a splined end -- like the transmission shift shaft -- but it's much smaller, and there's no lever or linkage attached to it.

Thoughts?

Hello

The photo doesn't pull up for me, can you post it to flickr etc and paste a link to it here?

Why do you want to know, does it go to your bike?

Hi Barnett.

Here's a link to the pic on Photobucket:

Yeah, it's on the '84 ES we've been corresponding about. You'll see in the photo.

BTW, was able to repair the new coil I buggered up, and hope to get everything buttoned back up and running this morning. Then I can check the timing advance.

thats just your shift indicator. Originally it would have a plastic red thing on there that would point to a sticker "N" neutral on the outside of your pull start

Hello

OK cool, if it doesn't run better try the magnetism test just to eliminate another possibility, just takes a minute. I'll check the photo.

Do you not know where the shaft goes?

I started a cross-pollination of our threads here. I'll respond in the other one.

Hello

Yes, it's a neutral indicator shaft as kebby28 says. If you want to see the indicator or buy another one go to the link below, $5.00 NOS.

OK. That makes sense. I could tell it was affected by transmission gear changes, but couldn't figure out what its purpose is.

Thanks.
