i just got a 225 dr today and the battery is going dead, probably because of the cold, but it is brand new! does the 225 recharge the battery? also i noticed that the light is powered by the engine. btw, it is a 1985

Probably needs a charge or didn't get enough acid to start with. You can buy the acid at most parts stores. It may be a "sealed" battery, but you can still get the caps open and top it off. It should charge itself back up. It won't be quick, but your battery shouldn't be drained after riding.

is powered buy the stator.Thats why the light gets brighter when you get on the gas. There is no altinator to charge the batt. This realy sucks.

Yes is does have a charging system. There is a voltage regulator/rectifier located next to the starter relay under the rear plastic near where the grab bar bolts up.You should start there but you may have the stator from the ytm200 which doesnt have a charging coil. You may also just have a loose connection somewhere.Follow all of the wiring around to check for loose wires, bad ground, etc.Be patient and you will learn something ;)

On my 84 Yamahauler, at the key switch, it is either off, on, or light. I have used it on the light position for quite a long time, and then had to pull start it because the battery died, but I let it run, and it charged the battery back up. Electric start worked no problem after that. So I am guessing the 225 would have a charging system as well.

Yes, they have a charging system, else it would be very inconvient to keep charging the battery with an AC battery charger. Like they said... check the connections, and wiring. Probably wouldn't hurt to check the output on your stator. I have a manual for these bikes... I'll have to look it up when I get back from Ohio. (Heading to see Howdy's fleet this weekend)

Hmmmm.... been working on 'Project Yamahaulers' and hear that 'click click' under the seat when I try to use the electric start. So you think I need a starter realy or will it make that noise if the neutral switch isn't in neutral?
