Hey everyone,

I found this site from doing google searches to try to fix my ATC 110. This place rocks for getting info!

I am pretty new in the world of actually fixing engines. I understand the concepts pretty well. Just need some training and messing around.

I got my trike for free from a guy who sold his house.

It sat for a year. I took it home and it almost started right away w/ me doing nothing but pull starting it.
So I figured it was good to go. I cleaned the carb, new gas, changed the oil, and switched out the spark plug.
When I took the original spark out it had a small dent in it and was black from smoke or burnt. I didnt think much of it.
I put the new spark in, started up after a couple pulls. Made some knocking noises, but still ran for about 2 min.
I checked the spark, it was covered in black oil and had 2 dents in it.
I got the spark number from the original plug. I read a couple forum and it said to use a smaller spark.
I got a smaller spark, no dents, but now the damn things will not start. I feel like I have watch hundreds of vids and tried to look at
everything. The timing looked good from what I could tell, the spark is working, I am trying to run 89 octane.
I tried to use started fluid and I could not even get it close to turn over.

Can anyone help me or direct me to what I should do? What forum would this question be good for?

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the forum!!
With the proper plug does it seem like it has compression?
Do a compression test and see what you got.

On the plug with the dent: The dent is most likely from a valve hitting the spark plug. I seen this happen many times when the wrong plug is used. If I am correct you will need to replace the bent valve.

Thanks for the welcoming!
I wouldn't know how to do a compression test. It does seem to have good tension when I try to pull start it though.

I have heard a couple times now that the valve might be bent and/or the piston is shot as well.
Looks like I need to get my hands dirty and dig in, see what I find. I am pretty new at this so, should be a good time!

Thanks!

You need a compression tester to do it properly.
Not a proper way, but this works for generic testing. Get someone to help you: Pull the spark plug and put a finger / thumb tightly over the spark plug hole. You want it sealed completely, but NEVER stick a finger in the hole.
Then have the other person pull it over hard like your trying to start it. It should blow your finger / thumb off the hole quickly. If it barely blows your finger off you have low compression. If it don't blow it off at all you got issues. Do this 2-4 times to get a good average ( IMO ).

Also, while doing this listen to for compression leaking out the exhaust, intake, head gasket, ect.

Checked it all out. The intake valve was bent. I replaced the valves, gaskets, carb rebuild and it started right up!

Thanks for the help!
