So we bought this machine the day before we left for TF2010. It was meant to be a campsite hopper for Miranda.

This bike was ROUGH. It had the worst plastics I had ever seen. They were completely weather checked. The clutch was shot, and someone cut the frame to remove the exhaust, then welded it back together.

Even still, we were in a rush to find something for her to ride and it was cheap. I've had a few of these bikes in the past and knew she would like the electric start and auto clutch.

Here it is at TF-2010. At this point we had already spent a day sanding the plastics (to no avail) and recovered the seat.

So on that trip to Haspin Miranda managed to flip the thing over backwards a few times. She was pretty nervous on it, so I knew we needed to get the thing stable. I decided I had to figure out a way to stretch the swingarm. I bought another complete swingarm and started looking at it. Turns out it wasn't too bad at all. At this time we added a YFZ450SE rear shock. Nice plush ride!

Here we were making the rear suspension swap..

Wow.. that's a horrible picture..lol

Once the swinger was done we added a set of G-Force wider hubs and 20" rear tires. That's how it stayed for TF 2011. We actually rode it like that up until last fall. Then I decided it was time to move on to the front suspension. Not to mention ditch those drum brakes.

With a little work we swapped on a complete TRI-Z front end.

We rode the thing last fall like that and kept looking for a donor with nice plastics. Even had one bought and sold from under us this winter. Finally we broke down and said "Screw it". We decided we wouldn't be out anything with the crappy fenders we had so we sanded them again and sprayed them with acrylic enamel.

We stripped it to the frame. Blasted it all clean, and started painting. After re-assembly I picked up a set of OEM style graphics for it (Miranda's idea). At this time we added a set of YFZ fat bars and fresh OURY grips.

So here it sets ready for the third trip to Trike-Fest. I'm installing YFZ rear brakes on it now. No more cable stuff.

Needless to say it turned out pretty good so far and Miranda is happy. Looks like no other 225DX you'll ever see!

Nice looking, for sure!!! Good job!
I saw one of those on CL a while back that looked pretty nice. I considered going to check it out but I decided not to. Too many other projects. It went quick.

I just picked up a dx. I was wondering how much work it was putting the tri z front end on?

Yes, same trike. It goes everywhere I go.
