Took my 200x out to the dunes this last weekend! The bike suprisinly did really good with the original knobboe tires? I wasnt able to climb any real big hills but had a blast manuvering around the place!

Wish we had dunes around here. Just lots of coal dust.

I think a typo made it a 220.....

haha I was wondering the same :beer

I wish we had some sand like that around here! There are a few sandpits but sadly they are all private property and i know of none that are open to ATV's anymore

Looks like I'm pretty close to the original poster. That's about a 2 hr drive for me. The Oregon Coast Dunes and Idaho dunes are far better than anything washington has to offer tho.

Yes i agree this was closer to home so we made it as fun as we could! They call these the juniper dunes in pasco but theres not too much sand its more a mixture of hard trails and sand.

Does Juniper have alot of dust? I'm not a huge fan of Moses Lake because of all the ash deposits left from Mt. St Helens in 1980 and there's some real gravelly areas under the power lines too. Nothing like the Oregon Coast dunes. If you enjoy the sand you owe it to yourself to hit some coastal dunes at some point.

Juniper is not bad at all ive heard about the ash at the moses lake dunes! Ive seen videos on you tube of a couple of the dunes in the oregon coast and they look amazing! My friends are heading to Winchester bay for dunefest i might join them, but i dont know if the 200x will get around ok? Is the sand to deep for a 200x you think?

200X will be slightly underpowered but you'll get around fine out there. My cousin rallied the heck out of a 200x he brought to Coos Bay one year. You won't be climbing straight up the big dunes but it will get around just fine and you'd have lots of fun.

Glad to see you had a good time in the dunes with your 200X, its not all about the outright power, sometimes its just pain and simple good fun.

I recently purchased a 250R and took it up to our local dunes for the first time. On the same trip I took my lads typhoon quad out as well. A mate of mine has another small chinese quad, and we spent a good hour riding around the dunes on these little things and we had a cracker of a time. Part of the challenge, and fun in itself, was getting up some of the dunes that bigger bikes would just blast up.

Should have seen the looks on faces as we rode up alongside riders parked on top of some of the bigger dunes, priceless. No paddles required, only a sense of adventure!

Living next to the Mississippi River my friends and I looked forward to riding on the sandbars when the water level dropped! For a while all I had was my 250sx and Yamaha 225dr, so I had to make do with those but it was always a blast!

always wondered about going to the sand, I think it would be a freakin blast. Some guys I knew went to the sand and they were ragging that a 400TRX didn't have enough power. I was wondering if they were being overly critical or I need something more powerful then a stock 200x with a aftermarket pipe? Would paddle tires help me a lot or just a little?

Thanks

ok, you said you couldnt climb well with the knobbies, was it due to they would spin like crazy and go no where? or power issue? I thought maybe with the low air pressure and wide footprint they might do ok anyways, guess not obviously.

The "not enough power" statement is subjective. To some people a stock 400ex is a fire breathing monster but to me and I have owned one, they are really mild. I still think anyone can have fun in the dunes on a 200x but some people wanna be the first to the top of a hill and have enough power to climb any hill in sight and reality is that's not possible on such a small displacement trike. As to your question about paddle tires, my answer would be no! Just run a good set of knobbies and have fun! I was given those on my 250sx above and after that trip, I never ran them again. It just didn't have the power to run them adequately and I got stuck using them more then I did run the holeshots I had.

Power is totally subjective like said above. I've had just as much fun on a ATC90 or 300EX as I have on my Tecate or my Banshee. They are totally different kinds of fun but fun nonetheless.. The guys that tell you something doesn't have enough power and you won't have fun are the guys that are out for bragging rights and want to challenge anyone and anything with their large ego. Just do it. You'll have fun. ;)

Your answer on the paddle tires was exactly the input I was wanting. So a stocker 200x would be best with the 20" hole shots I am currently running and not worry about paddles.
