How much more rare/collectible are the 86 200x's compared to the 83-85's?

The 2nd generation 200x is more collectable than the first generation--there are fewer of them for sure. I think they look cooler too. However, if you are looking to ride it and modify it, the 1st generation has more aftermarket parts. I have an 83 I'm currently hopping up but would like to get an 86 or 87 some day.

I don't know as the 86 are significantly môre rare than earlier models, definitely more sought after and that might explain them not turning up more regularly..
Now the 87 model is a different matter..!! Pretty rare indeed.

The rarity is really just a matter of production time.
The 1st generation had 3 full years of rolling off the assembly line, the 2nd generation had 2 (really only 1 year as 1986 was the last year for ATC sales in the US). So naturally the 86/87's are going to be more rare.
As far as performance goes the MAJOR difference in my opinion is the 5 vs 6 speed tranny. This is why I just bought an 86!

The 86/87 has so many improvements and they worked!
Aftermarket parts can be more difficult but once you build it all on solid, you basically will have a maintenance free trike. Oil/filter/plug change but these motors just chug around
All kinds of improvements in 86 and 87 200X; These isn't anything too much to say on the 83-85 aside the kicker gears dying and other issues they had, but they felt very different in 86/87 . Yup small improvements :D
And many parts are available but the main issues like the kickstarter gears are a PITA. Lots of aftermarket parts are everywhere for the 2 first years they were made or are at Shortlines' house
