just picked up a 1989 suzuki rm250 . it is missing the main pipe " has silencer " whole top end " jug , head ,and piston . also missing rear hub and wheel assembly . i paid $100 for it and figured if i can get parts cheap enough might be worth fixing up . i was told that year rm250 was a handfull . so first i guess i need to know what year rm 250's will work with this 89 . and second if anyone has parts that will work let me know condition and cost .

I hope you are going into this with eyes wide open. I've found that old dirt bikes are not cheap to bring back from the dead and it is rare to find one with missing parts that dosen't have somethiing major wrong with it (crank, cylinder, trans). Suggest you tear it all down and make a list of everything you're going to need before you spend anything. You may find that a new one will cost less. Best of luck to you.

Cool. If you want to know which parts from other years and models will fit I recommend that you pull up parts numbers on a Suzuki site, or Bike Bandit and make your own crossover list. Often parts from smaller, bigger, or enduro bikes are the same.

Any idea if the top end from a 1995 rm250 will work with my 1989 ?

Part number is different, I'd be very surprized if it would fit.

The jug is what would make the 89 a handful. different port layouts are what makes the motor's attitudes so vastly different

Virtually everything year to year is different. I'm only even responding because I have a customer who literally and utterly has MORE into his 92 RM 250 than he could have bought three used RMZ 450's for now. Last 450 I saw sold here was a 06 for $1400,,granted that was cheap. I have a 92 RM 250,and a 94 RMX 250 I parted and he is always over here trying to scrounge parts. Good luck and be very careful on " hoping" other years will fit, because usually they won't. Like EL said, make sure you go through Suzuki to verify before ordering anything. Honestly needing that much you will probably be better off parting it. A nice used hub for that thing will be gold price unless you get extremely lucky. Good luck !

I was big into the RM 125. There was not enough room to get through the gears on that RM 125 and when I drove it at the friendly family riding park the bike literally terrorized the soccer moms. I love when they cover their ears like a monkey when you rip ting by. Hah good luck with that 250. If you ever get it all together I don't know how your gonna hang on.
Everything is so damn expensive now and the bone yard aint cheap.

I have a complete 89 RM250 at my house. Runs good and to my knowledge needs nothing. I'm selling for a buddy. $600 takes it. Let me know if anyone is interested
