Is there any trick to getting the drum itself back on? I loosened all the brake adjusters, tried a hammer, and it just keeps bouncing back out. I got the correct shoes for a 85 200s but its just not going back on.

This may be a dumb question but I have to ask have you inspected the drum those pads can be snug and it don't take much to obstruct it. if there's any nicks or dings it might need a light sanding.

It's almost like the shoes are too big. Do you often need to sand down new shoes a little? I'll have to check tomorrow and inspect the drum a little more carefully and clean it good.

Hello
I have had the following problems.
AFTERMARKET SHOES – I have gotten some that are slightly large and required sanding to fit. I have used a wide coarse flat file, flat file wrapped with sandpaper and/or a piece of adhesive 120 grit sandpaper [available at automotive paint shops or automotive paint suppliers] stuck to a flat surface like a granite countertop or window etc.
You can arc “fine tune” the fit by installing them applying brakes lightly then rotating drum a turn then remove drum and surface high spots.
BRAKE DRUM – I have had to file [half round file] or machine a lip down that is left when brakes wear into a drum where they ride. Although the lip is mainly what is left of the original drum id the wear from the shoes can actually raise a small lip right next to the edge where the shoes were riding.
AXLE SPLINES - It looks like they are dry, I suggest you install a little grease so the drum doesn't rust to the axle.
Keep it clean and on topic!!Howdy
