Hi all,
having enjoyed a couple of rentals on the dunes when teenaging the '80s, I stumbled upon this ATC90 like 5 years ago, in pretty good condition. This noble little wonder and its low gears helped me even stump the adobe mud mix we used for constructing our house walls in the woods, where we now live. But after serving the cause, pulling small trees, carts full of firewood, sand, etc., it couldn't take it any longer. I tried with more than a couple of mechanics, but the poor engine is almost.

Here I read about the Lifan implants and Bandito forks. I'm a recycler and miss my 90 quite badly, always for farm work, no racing or speeding. Don't wanna spend on a quad. So I'm looking into getting a new engine and adding front shocks to the 90.

I understood the Lifan or Piranha or Dr.ATC engines are usually put in 70s but never read anything about putting them in 90s. There is a 125cc Lifan being sold here in Uruguay and the only problem I see is the electonic start not fitting the original 90 frame. The rest of the bolting seems similar to the 90 engine, but I must be missing something...

On the other hand, I've always wanted fronts shocks to try smoothing the ride and lifting the handle bar further up to my height. I know I wont find ready forks here, so I'm considering cutting the 90 fork and bolting shocks into it, with some kind of strong clamp.

Well, thats where I'm at the moment, hoping to find some good advice. I've seen some amazing mods here.
Saludos!

Don't personally know a lot about the Lifan motors, but I'm pretty sure there are several other models of 3 wheelers that the entire front end would swap. I'm thinking the 185s/200s ones might work, or work with a little modification.

With a welder, torch, and the will/skill anything can be made to work :).

Thanks, PS2. I wish I could get other trike's forks that already had suspension, but that's not much of an option where I live. These days there's nothing trike in the local equiv of e-bay. I can get motorbike shocks and try adapting them to the 90 fork or directly a bike fork, but the width will always have to be dealt with.

Welcome to the forums! Love the 90 as well! For the Bandito Forks they might be difficult to come by as I have not seen a set forsale myself and would love a set! And for the Chinese motors I have heard it done once or twice. http://www.dratv.com/adchtob.html This is the adapter for a ct90 which should be the same for a atc90. I know I am going to try it.

Thanks 90guy, importing heavy stuff like a fork or an engine isn't cheap at all, and lots of customs to be done. An adaptor like that is fine. I've been looking at DrAtv but it seems that they don't propose a Lifan for the ATC90. Somebody here must have tried it, though, right?
