Ok, I've done some searches and don't understand the process fully - hence this thread.
I have an 84 YTM 200EL; orig voltage reg is shot, so I'm replacing it. The old reg has a 4 wire plug.
-blue wire goes to the lights
-black to ground
-red to main switch and battery (I'm not using a battery in this machine)
-white to CDI
Ok, I hooked up the brown wire from the new regulator to the black wire (ground), and I hooked up the yellow wire from the regulator to the blue wire (lights); and the lights work. They worked before with the old regulator but would blow out at higher rpms (obviously with a bad regulator). My first question is this, the red and white wires are just sitting there out in the open now. What do I do with those? I know they don't get tied in with the blue and yellow wire, I tried that and the lights don't work
Secondly, the lights are pretty dim at idle but light up good at higher rpms. Would having a battery in it keep the brightness more consistent?
I'm not too good with the electrical stuff, so I just need some help with this guys. :wondering
