Bought this poor thing yesterday.

Bad:
coolant bottle had hole burnt in top of it, of course..
Toolbox has lid missing and is kinda faded
only one skid plate
rear grab bar custom reinforced / welded
rear fender brace trailpro 'ed
brakes not working / unknown
Answer SA silencer but bracket cracked on one side.
OEM pipe (undamaged i think)
Some scratched up Z400 rear rims with Ohtsu H-trak tires thrown in.
missing every other thing.
well a lot of stuff really..lol

Good:
rear shock not blown
front forks not blown or leaking but caps are marred as usual
OEM fork boots? not rotted
radiators not bent which was a surprise.
Motor seems to be all there minus some splines from kid shifting it with vise grip while i watched (whatever)

$350...I really should have stuck to $300...what a wreck

OH yeah and if anyone is interested he is selling the other 85 T3 behind it for a mere $1000 (he was already offered $200 but he didnt take it)....he had a mint 85 hidden away that was $2500 but I didnt even ask to look at it.

I agree. You have a rare machine that was essentially made for one year. With enough money, time, and love you can make it look new.

I have a ratty looking one that runs. One that's apart and only partially left. Another one that needs to be taken apart all the way and now this one. I will be selling parts soon since my garage is now full.

strip it down, sift thru the parts find good ones, scrap bad one, decide later what ya will do with it. When we 1st look at things we think dayum all this...once it home we find the bad.

Got burned monday from a guy local who said stuff was perfect I bought, got it home started to find it was 50% dog poo poo.

You got to start somewhere, and that is not too bad. My Tri Z was similar in shape but once you start pulling apart, removing the junk and Cleaning it up it gets beautiful in a hurry. Glad to see someone taking the time to restore these beasts. Tecate T3 is the next bike I want do up after the Tri Z is finished. Good Luck with new toy!
