How many of you have taken your carb apart and found the bowl seal won't fit back in the groove when you go to put it back together? It appears the seal has swelled, right? Well it has. Its supposed to do that and contrary to popular belief, they are reusable but how to get the seal to fit again without cutting a chunk out of it? EASY PEASY JAPANEASY!!!!!! Wash the bowl seal with rubbing alcohol and pat dry. The next part is very simple. When your wife isn't looking, turn your oven on to 200deg and hang the bowl seal in the oven on a piece of wire and let it warm up for 15 minutes or so. Take it out and let cool. Now the bowl seal is back to the size its supposed to be. Why does it do this you ask? The material the seal is made from is designed to swell when exposed to gasoline forming a nice tight seal between the bowl and the bowl rim. This however does not work on old hard seals. This has been your DIY Tip of the Day....

Make SURE the wife isn't watching...you wouldn't want to let it slip that you know how to operate an oven (or any other household appliance, for that matter). Good tip, btw!

Awesome tip!!! I always thought it was just a cheap bowl gasket that swelled & was not re-usable... so you had to go out & buy another kit...
If your wife does catch on that you know how to use an oven... just offer to cook dinner one night & nuke a frozen pizza till its nice & charred..

Great tip. I usually just make it fit - sometimes trim, sometimes superglue. This is better - thanks Jim!

So that's why my 350X petcock leaked when I first added fuel to the tank(tank was on a shelf for 8years, or so), but then stopped leaking after a couple days!
