84 YTM 200 EL Yamahauler is what I brought back from the dead this year. I've been doing a lot of work on it over the past 6 months. From carb work to the brakes and a lot of other things. Lately I've been hearing a slight ticking coming from the engine, I'm thinking the valves need adjustment. I have the Clymer and factory Yamaha manuals downloaded and have read thru both concerning the valves and camshaft chain adjustment.
A few questions. Do I really have to remove the gas tank to adjust the valves, or is there enough room to get in there? I've never adjusted valves on any of my 3 wheelers, so this will be new to me. Do I just need wrenches to do the job? I have shims to measure with, so that won't be a problem. Could the ticking sound I'm hearing be anything else? The bike is really solid, and runs really good; seems really tight. I've been riding it regularly for a number of months now, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I just want to do the maintenance right, and tips from you guys is very much appreciated. I'm just trying to learn some things that I've never done. :wondering
