So yesterday i finally picked a early to mid 60'S 250 scrambler that my step dad gave me a few weeks back. Its in pretty poor shape but its mostly there as far as i can tell. My plans are to try to get it to start then make plans to turn it into a cafe racer style of bike since parts are kinda hard to find and i dont feel like this one is restorable. Ive never tried anything like this before buy i figured why not? Can't be too hard right? we'll find out i guess. lol

173965 Here's what im starting with. Like i said its pretty rough but i mainly just wanna see if i can get it to run to see if its worth pursuing any farther. Not bad for free though! lol

So i spent a bit of time messing with the bike. The engine is locked up and the kickstarter is stripped inside the case. It's not looking good for the old bike. I don't think I'll be able to do anything with it other then part it out. Ill take another look at it later and see if the engine will unlock.

Pull the sparkplugs, fill the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil, Seafoam, or automatic transmission fluid, and reinstall the plugs. Then, load it on a truck, drive over the worst roads in the nation (I believe them to be located within the 13160 zip code) for a week or two, and see if that will free up the motor. I has worked for me more than once; the downside being that I have missed some great curbside finds due to the "lump" on my truck inhabiting precious cargo space. You could always consider an engine transplant, but the right side final drive limits your options. I say SAVE THE SCRAMBLERS!!!

From running the numbers i did find out that its a 1964 model. I did spray some lube in the cylinders. Ive also let it sit outside it the sun a bit to warm the engine and work as a natural heat gun to help work the lube into the stuck rings but i havent had any luck yet lol. The bike has alot of sentimental value to my stepdad who gave the bike to me. I really wanna see this bike run and maybe give it back to him. Tripledog i wish this scrambler looked as good as that one!

So i got the engine unlocked and the kick starter working. Now i need to get spark.but first ill have to fix this rats nest of wiring on the bike as well as all the half-assed repairs that have been done over the years. Ill keep ya'll updated on the progress (if i make any) and take more pics as i get a chance

Signing up to watch this one. :pics::pics::pics: Mine is not quite as old, but I have a 78 CB550four k. (Didn't know it was a K till I checked the VIN, side cover only has 550four) Unfortunately the last battery I bought the terminals were reversed and I didn't catch it. Fried the rectifier. That was 2003 and I went and bought my first Harley shortly after and it's been sitting to the side of the garage every since. It's really not in that bad of shape and I have a windshield, engine guard, & sissy bar for it. It's all there but probably will need top end gone over, tires, and alot of elbow grease. Was told by PO it was originally brown but he painted it chevy blue for some reason. ANYWAY, keep us posted!!:D

So i haven't made any progress on the scrambler since my last update. i did however find a wiring diagram for the bike once i get the time to start rewiring this beast. it looks pretty straight forward but there may be other problems lurking so im keeping a keen eye on things and gathering as much troubleshooting info as i can.

Bummer! :( At least you got something you wanted out of the deal, and that is a good thing! ;) I can only hope the new owner of the Scrambler shows it the love that all old Hondas so absolutely deserve.

Yeah i hope he does show it some love. He sounded pretty happy with buying it and the Honda Z50 i had sitting around too. I just had to make some room for some new toys lol.

x2
I had one like that in the truck, put it in 1st gear so it would rock back and forth a million times while I drove it around in the truck for a few weeks.
Finally broke loose.
