Kind of short notice but here is some info;
This Friday August 2nd Tonganoxie Kansas
Next Thursday August 8th Gardner Kansas
Next Friday August 9th Emporia Kansas
All tracks will be small ovals this year and on dirt. Space out that right rear tire and come on down for a good time. We have four or five so far but more the merrier. This is the first time 3 Wheelers have been allowed to race at these races in many years. More info and entry forms found at www.KATVA.org
Thanks for the space.
Randy
I wish I could make it over there. Maybe one of these years I'll get my act together and make one of these races.

Just a couple weeks away. Is the Emporia race going to be a TT or is it a oval. Also how large is the track?

Same small oval like the above videos. You going to make it?

That's my plan. My son wants to know if bikes are racing also? Also wanted to ask if the big tires will even compete with the cart setups.

Yes they have bike classes. The turnout can be off and on sometimes with the cycle guys for some reason. We will run them if they show up. We have had some Pee Wee cycle kids too Also at this event they will be having the riding lawn mower classes which looks like a lot of fun to me and it also reminds me of the early days of 3 Wheeler racing with no suspension and more home built inventiveness than off the shelve go fast parts. Quads too. As far as big tires VS small tires, that is a tough call. This location tends to have a slightly sandier and slicker dirt that would be more forgiving to the big tires than the clay tracks that are sticky. Bring a tire selection and a air bubble and go from there. Running a stagger with the right rear being taller (more air or a different tire) than the left rear helps a lot. You will get one short practice, a heat race and a main event no matter what and you will have fun either way and like everyone else go home thinking about what you would do differently next year :)

Wish I had a set of those 16 in Carlliles Mickey likes so much. I also need to find a shorter tire for my new 10 in front rim :)

I raced at Konopolus a few years ago (86 I think) and the tires I used in my heat were not working and I got second. For the main a guy in the pits loaned me his sons Carlisle 16 in tires for the main event and I smoked the field even though I was way undergeared because the carlisles were so short. They sure had great bite out of the turns :)

Here is a picture of the 16" Carlisle "Baby RA's" as we called them on the Cagiva pic taken about 1985.

Keith, wish I could but I would need a time machine as they have been long gone for years. I did a little searching and the nearest thing you can buy now is a Carlisle 16X7.50X8 "Turf Master" which is a 4 ply tire. They make the same tire in a 15X6.50X8 but its a 2 ply. Here is what they look like for either size. These are also the preferred tire for the Riding Lawnmower Racing Classes. So do you have any 8" wheels left?

Im running the 18x9.50x8 on my 81 250r racer. I was at Wal-Mart few days ago and they had some 16x8 tires. Im thinking of getting a set but I dont have a set of 8 inch rims narrow enough for them.My 18s hookup well they get good bite actually to much at times.I highside with a plus five axle and four inches of hub extension.177170 177171

Yes a 18 X 9.50 X 8 can be too much tire on a tacky track. I used to race with some Goodyear Softtracs in that size and when they started getting hot I started tipping. On those the outer edge was real square so I took a grinder and rounded the edges. Made a lot of smoke doing that
If you could get the 16 X 7.5 X 8 I bet you could pop that onto the normal 8" wide wheel but I know the 16 X 6.5 X 8 is too narrow and stiff to pop out on that wide of wheel. I had a set of those on my Nicholson 110 and used ATC 70 6" wide Douglas wheels that were the 3 bolt pattern. For your 81 racer you could used the ATC 70/90/110 3 bolt hubs and get some of those narrower wheels then the shorter & narrower tires.
I went by Tractor Supply (TSC) on the way to work today and they had the 16 X 6.5 X 8 on the shelve for about $34 each.

I went in my local mower store yesterday and they had several sets of those carlisles like in the above pic in a 10 in rim. They looked good but the guy at the shop stated that they are not rated for anything faster than a mower :)

Ha Ha on them, mower tires never were. Kinda like when Top Fuel Dragsters were running 30 MPH Moped Tires :)
Keith, I am bringing you some Titan 18 X "8.5" X 8 tires on Honda Wheels to try out. See you soon.

Our Mills Fleet/farm store has every Carlisle tire made And cheap as you can get! I agree with Randy. I Raced on an asphalt track on a 4 wheeler back in the day and the other racers bitched cause I was using otshu tires , so I told them I'll come next week with garden tractor tires and beat you! I took them off my garden tractor and drilled the wheels for my Honda ,went and kicked their asses again. So heck with the speed rating ! Randy that 110 looks mean! It would tear us up now??? Oh , I have a 110 though , HHMM
