85 250r worth it to rebuild?

I was thinking of rebuilding my 250r motor at some point, nothings wrong with it just to freshen it up, is it worth it to spend the money and rebuild it?

how longs it been since your last rebuild of the motor, have you checked the compression

me personally, if the frame is cracked off with a destroyed base and fenders and a blown top end as well i maybe, just maybe give up but thats about it :)

If the piston looks good just hone a re ring it. The cost will be rings, head and base gasket. poor mans rebuild, I lovem.

Anything is worth rebuilding. You need to ask yourself how passionate are you with your 250r? And how are your finances? And are you motivated?
If you answer 2 out of the 3 spend the time and the money and get it done, and also want you to know if you do the majority of the work you will appreciate and enjoy your bike more, good luck.

On the plus side, 2 strokes are cheap and easy to do a top end on.

On the other hand, it runs so why mess with it? Can you hear the piston slapping around or does it have low compression or is it hard to start or slow compared to another R? If not, leave it alone and ride it. Buy another one to work on.

Yea honestly only time a rebuild is worth it is if its leaking oil or has lower then standard compression or you can tell the piston is at the end of its life

well its never been rebuilt and as far as I know its never been touched since production. compression is good at 170 psi. just noticed some scrape marks on the exhaust side of the piston skirt. and if you slowly crank it over you can hear a little squeak in one spot, but it has lots of power still

I think normal cylinder P.S.I. in stock cylinders are 175LBS, and +15 or minus -15. I think you are fine but if you need to do they are not hard at all. I would not hesitate it is better to crack open and just check it out rebore, new piston and enjoy!

I would at least remove and inspect the piston, if you spot any stress cracks on the piston
Or scratches on cylinder wall, than it's time for a rebuild.

If not 100% sure take it to a machine shop have them inspect it for you.
