So i am currently tearing down the bike for a minor rebuild. Mainly the engine and the rest is cosmetic.
Question is, i have everything connecting the motor off and out. As in motor mounts, carb, etc. All except the shaft. How do i go about getting it off to take the engine out the best way? Take off the rubber boot and take off them 4 or 5 nuts?

Reason im rebuilding it is because it smokes like crazy, something is jammed up with the electric starter and it wont disengage. All the other things is external and cosmetic like a new recoil, sanding plastics, repainting exhaust, and a thorough cleaning and fixing some minor electrical problems (When lights on it kills engine), its a mess but its a neat little project learning something new. Use to ATC's.

Any tips appreciated. I will get more pics up as i work and new questions arise. This is just the plastics and tank off. But hey, you guys like pics.

So after much work today i got a lot done in my eyes. Motor pulled, exhaust stripped down, painted somewhat but the spray nozzle thing kept clogging up, rear end off, and whatever else i forgot about. BUT I TOOK SOME PICTURES!
Rear end off

What is this? When the engine is running that little pin goes in and out. No idea what it is.

Prepping for paint, wire wheel in a drill makes it a lot easier than how i usually do it.

Them motors are heavy and in there tight I took the last one out by myself and regretted it. Get help pulling it. And remove the swing arm its not too hard.

Thank you for all the help, removing the swing arm was the ticket. Now i can work on it indoors as it now fits through my basement door. :)

Hope you enjoy the pics, learning as i go, never rebuilt a engine before. Or really did any of this stuff. Would really like to know what that pin thing on the engine is for.
Before i crack open the engine to take a look inside is there anything i should have/do? Im afraid i might have to open up the bottom end too because of those starter problems.

that little pin is part of the cam chain adjuster and by the looks its way to tight.it should be flush when engine is off.

Thanks, now i know what it is at least. Is there suppose to be a cap over it? I have been struggling to find a good manual. Only one i can find is just the normal operators manual, how to ride, change oil, not the stuff i need.

that cam chain is toast, they arn't expensive. the bolt should stick out an inch. then theres a lock nut on it ( 24mm) and a plastic bolt (cover) for it.
