i was kinda wondering if the rectifier was a charging type thing

i was wondering because the battery always goes dead, maybe old weather? when i put a tester on the the two leads, no voltage was coming back, but i think that i may have a loose wire somewhere

i dont have an atv battery
i turned mine over with a car battery and turned over fine but didnt start and i dont know why
atleast i know my starter actually works
car battery is some voltage but has more amps than a atv battery tho
do u have a ground on the frame

Yeah, I'm digging way back here, but yes, it does have a charging system. It must. I have left my 84 Yamahauler in the "light" position for quite a few hours while lost in the bush one night, and when I went to use the electric start, I could just hear the click, and nothing. So I pull started it, drove it for a bit, then the next time I went to fire it up with electric start it worked no problem.

yes it does. But it only charges at higher RPM's not at idle. Sounds like your bat. is spent. :cool:

If you have a battery, you have a charging system. Output increases with RPMs, but they do charge at idle.

Ive often wondered this also.. Ive bought 2 new batteries.. both last about 2 days, till they drain. Whatever charges them, Alternator or whatever is shot on mine..

Anyone know exactly it is, and where its at on the motor?

yes they do have a charging system, but it seems like most of them don't charge like they should anymore even with a new battery

They all start with a magneto coil and a magnetic flywheel which generates AC voltage. After that it must be rectified which means turned into DC voltage. DC voltage from Rectified AC voltage varies in amplitude, and is pulsed so it must be regulated. Voltage regulaters keep your output from going above around 14v. This is why you blow bulbs when the regulater has a problem.

As far as where they are located, the magneto, and the voltage regulater are usually separate components while the rectifier may be separate but now more often is combined or incorporated into another component.
