View Full Version : Drug Home a Big Ugly and a Little Cuttie Last Night. '86 Z & '84 70
The price was right on both. The 70 is in great shape and only needs a coil and a couple of rear tires, but the Z is not so nice. Its all there in boxes and supposedly still has the six speed lower end. After closer inspection today while I've had time, its been beat on pretty bad and needs some attention on parts of the frame like, foot peg bolt holes, steering stop, and someone at one time welded the pivot bolt on. I'm still on the fence on what to do with it. I've always wanted a '86 Z, but I don't know about this one.

With that title I was hoping we were talking 3 wheelers! Nice 70 !! My moneys on you building the Z.... :)
I think once it cools down outside and I get my R running, I'll evaluate it more. It's beat really hard, but about 95% there so it's going to go in the shed for now so its out of sight out of mind type deal. The '86's never pop up for sale around me in any condition and the last one that did the guy got 2500 for it and it wasn't even that nice, so that is why I snagged it.
I brought my daughter with me to go get it and the guy had two atc 70's and a trx70. I asked her which one she likes and she didn't hesitate to point to the 84 atc70. How could a dad resist?lol

You had to buy the hardest color to buy a tri-z! I am happy for you buying that better than what tri z i have, brand new oem white front and rear plastic and brand new oem yellow front and rear plastic

I've been down that road of NOS plastic with my 250r. That was the first and last bike I try and hunt down NOS parts for, maybe.lol

Those bikes also never come up for sale around here and when they do they last a day or two. I got both of these for about the price of the TRX. He was a great guy I wish I had more time to BS with him last night. He said he's a member on here but I forgot his screen name. Maybe he'll see this and check in.

I seen them on craigslist. im out of work right now or you would have had to fight me for the Z. if you decide to part the Z i would be interested in the lower end/tranny!!!! How was the 85 Z he had?

Ok, so i dont know much about the z's so forgive me here if this is a horrible suggestion.
Put the Z on the back burner. Fix up your R, enjoy the hell out of the 70 and have some fun.
Meanwhile all that is going on, look out for another z. Maybe use this one as parts, or another one for parts to fix this one since its a rare color scheme.
Get a yellow and black one, Take the top end off and use the 86 bottom end so you have 6 gears of pure enjoyment. Use the frame and other parts from the red/white one.
Just a thought.

How was the 85 Z he had?He said he had a lot of guys asking about the 86. The 85 is mechanically solid and a good bike for the price, I'm just not a fan of the yellow and black ones. I have to sit down and actually evaluate what I have and don't have before I make any decisions with it.

Just a thought. I agree. Its definitely a back burner project. I'm going to do some things to the 70 so my daughter can ride it. Honestly I'm not really crazy about the 70's, I've had two others and sold them a month after buying them. If there was a flat track closer to me I would maybe get into them, but other than riding it around my subdivision or watching my daughter ride it, they are pretty much useless to me.

i understand. I have an 85 that I think 5th gear is going out. it stutters very bad only in 5th. figured if I open it up I may as well throw a 6 speed in it haha...sleeper!!! either way I look forward to the build if you decide to go that way. If not, just keep me in mind for the bottom end if you part it. thanks and nice score!

Ride it for a little, if you feel like getting rid of it trade it for a 90 or 110, small enough yet big enough for you both. Lots of people like 70's and 90/110's are pretty popular so im sure youll be able to find one. Just enjoy it for now.

Hey Brian, its Ryan that sold these to you.
The 86 trx is supposedly sold to a guy in Oklahoma, I think i'm gonna hang on to the 85 triz and the wife doesn't want me to sell the 85 atc70. At least I made a little room in the garage. I guess I just need a bigger garage:lol:
Hope your daughter enjoys the 70! Nice meeting both of you.
