I had one of those days today I hope you all get to experience one day. As a youth I had mentor in the off road game, his name was JB. I grew up wanting to be like him and his trophies and he ended being my mechanic in the only Blackwater race that I finished long ago. We still ride when we can, it's mostly dual sport stuff now, but he can still throw that 600 on the back wheel and ride wheelie for a mile. I love this guy like a big brother. On to today adventure, my nephew is a 13 year old momma boys ( not a bad thing, I have a great sister) he's just a ill wimpy. My parents, sister, and brother in law are going shopping (wineries). Haha. I'm not really into all that when i get in the the mountains. I ask Gabe if he wants to go for ride, his eyes light up and grabs a helmet and jumps on the back of the Vinson and I ask what are you doing, he says riding with you and I say no way come on. We go out to the bike shed and I tell him we are taking these. One being the DX and the other being the ALT 185, the momma boy comes out and tells me three wheelers are dangerous. I laugh and tell him,"you have to cut your teeth on these if you ever want to ride my big bikes". I gear him up with one of my old fox jerseys and matching gloves, don't ask why I still have them, they quit fitting 20 years ago. Yes he looked silly, but it gave him confidence and thought he looked cool. We rode for a couple hours with no major issues, he got stuck a few times, he high sided once on a rock no biggie. Then he almost brought me to tears, we were playing on a deer trail ( single track) and he was ahead of me and crossed the lil creek first and stops on the other side. I pop the front wheel up on the dx and wheelie across the creek and set the wheel down next to him and shut the bike down. I've seen the look before, but it was me looking at JB in his eyes. He tells me that was the coolest thing he has ever seen and he wanted me to show him how. I say "in time young grasshopper", and I get " what" . So we head back to camp and he tells his mom and dad all about the greatest day in his life. My sister grabs me beer and gives me a wink. Mission accomplished . I passed the passion on to the next generation . I have to say it was one of my greatest days.
