After my kid got off from riding it for the first time last night he realized that when people told
him that anyone can ride a quad....they were right. He was taken back a bit by the stance and
the power band. LOL! He has lots to learn.

1999 YZ125 $400. Not a bad deal. All we had to do was clean it up and change out all the
fluids.

Thats a pretty good deal around here. Id say nice score.
Maybe a 2 stroke dirtbike is not the easiest to learn on, but itll do. :)

He'll pick it up. He is a really good rider on his quad he just has to get used to the bike on the trails.
Trails is pretty much all he rides, but the quad is still his number one machine.....except when we are
at home then the ATC110 is his neighborhood ride.

He already has the bug to tear it down and restore it over the winter. :-)

$400 would be a great deal around here. Yeah those little 2 strokes rip. Your son should have a lot of fun.

No matter how experienced you are on a dirtbike, your going to dump it time to time. Just keep some good tires on the back and itll be less likely to slip out from underneath you.
Hell, on a dirtbike is where i learned the art of bailing.

There are not many times when I get a good deal so I'll gladly be called the thief this time.

He was saying at the end of the night I have this. I just told him, "Great Kid, don't get cocky" :p
and that no matter how many times you ride it there is a big chance you will dump it.

Hell of a deal, I would have scooped that up for sure. How old is he? He looks huge on that thing! I just bought my son his first 2-wheeler a few days a go, a PW50. He's only 1. lol.

I am always giving my kid hell for the way he rides. He has a kx 250f and the thing is airborne most of every ride. However judging buy the condition of the plastic it does spend some time on its side. He sure laughed the other day when I layed my bike down.

He does look big on it in that picture, but it must be the lens or something as he is only 5'8" and can barely get both feet on the ground and the spring is cranked down
on the rear suspension. He is a solid 160lbs though. I don't see any fat on that kid I don't know what he is made of.

I see by your list of bikes that your little one will probably be on that PW50 at a very early age and learning well.

Well the YZ has been totally torn down as of tonight. The frame and swing arm are going out to be powder coated and
we'll be getting a few new parts. Time for another restore. Figures once we got the swing arm off and the front forks
for rebuilding that we might as well just keep going.

looks nice. i had a 95 yz125, it had a week powerband compaired to CR's. I grew up riding bikes and went to quads and trikes. I prefere bikes but im 5ft 6

Good thing about them yamahas is from 96-01 they were basicly the same so they do not goo very old when placed next to a 2013 yz125.

Wow, you made quick work of that. Did you go through the motor also?

Dirtweed
10-17-2013, 09:08 PM
No we didn't need to go through the motor yet as it was running good. It just didn't have any suspension
when we got it from the bearings being seized up. Got them all replaced, Race Tech spring and all the shocks
rebuilt. Powder coated and just about everything else new except the wheels, brake lines and clutch perch....working
on that one though.

Finally. Here is a shot before we got the rear brake cables on and filled. Next to get is a video of it
being ridden. I found a 1986 RM250 that I am going to check out to see if it is also a good cadidate.

And it is running. Still need to fill the brakes and put on the radiator guards and shrouds. After that it should
be good to go.

Yes and the kid was too busy playing with his phone.....
