bought a 225dx last fall and been working on it for a wail, started to get it ready for deer hunting. tried to get the electric start working and for a few pushes it works. then my battery goes dead, I have been told that it is the voltage regulator/ rectifier. I was just wondering if there is any test to tell if it could be the stator or if it has to be the regulator/ rectifier. bought a used rectifier from the parts shop and that one did not work also, still AC voltage at the battery, and at revs the DC peaked at 14.7 volts.
any help is much appreciated

Sounds more like the battery is the cause of the starting issue..you should be able to start the trike many times on a full charge even if the charging system is non-functional.
True the condition of the voltage rectifier may be at question but your explaination of the starting problem sound more like battery.

the battery is only 3 mouths old, and if it was the battery why would I be getting AC voltage at the battery.

so where are you getting the dc reading from?

If you are getting an A/C current voltage reading at the battery connection then the rectifier isn't functioning..since the stator creates an A/C voltage and the rectifier converts it to D/C. It's the only explaination. Either that or the wiring has been altered and the currently is bypassing the rectifier..
Also age of the battery is irrelavent..if the charging system is pumping A/C voltage in it for an unknown amount of time it may be toast!

when you get the battery thing figured out check the starter solenoid, it is under the cross member the rear plastics bolt onto, after that check for corrosion in your starter button, also check and make sure the neutral switch works, it is below the shift lever " a wire that connects to the case"

thanks for the help starter bottom is in good condition and th neutral switch is working as it should. thanks for confirming that it has to be the regulator/ rectifier. I guess I will just have to keep trying the ones from the salvage yard to find a working one. does anyone know of an alterative to the OME one?

the rectifier is just 4 diodes.. any rectifier should do.. also consider the volt-meter you are using as a suspect, the cheaper volt meters will pick up ignition noise in the wires and think its AC voltage, my cheapo volt meter does that, thought I had a bad alternator in a car, then went and checked 3 other cars and got the same reading..
