i got a 1985 200x with a 200s engine i dont know what year. it was running fine one day grabbing gears up and down then i tried to downshift and it didnt want to go i had to reach down with my hand and pull it up (pretty hard) it shifts fine at the beginning of a run then starts downshifting hard again but it will up shift perfectly smooth. i want to see what you think before i go buy crankcase seals and look at the forks

Well it sounds like your engine is Pre 1984. 1985 was the beginning of the upshift pattern being neutral all the way down and 5th up. My advice to you is just try changing the oil. It might just fix it.

What part of Oregon?

so it shifts ok cold but harder when warm?
x2 with the oil chainge. ez cheap and fast.
MAYbe spring for wet clutch cycle oil for 6 bucks.

pretty sure they were designed for regular 10-40 but they keep changing
the formulation.
Lots of threads on oil.
Try the search key.

Do you have a
service manual
?

I've been intoo 85 and newer cases and have found loose pins etc but never a pre 85.
Someone should chime in soon.

starts doing it 3-4 shift not quite warm. i can let it warm up for 20 min and 3-4 shift it will start downshifting hard or just fire it up and go and samething

I run 10w40 I think. Just the one gallon cheap just at Walmart. When mind shifts rough its time for a oil change.
I'm pretty sure the manual says 10w40 I don't remember the type though.
