I have a 84 200s,and the plugs get fouled out pretty fast.although it still runs, but runs like crap.at wot and let off it gives off a wicked backfire.when I put carb back together the pilot screw was 1-1 1/4 turns out.so I set it to that.what am I missing here?

What type of exhaust do you have, and is it sealed, or loose where it connects to the head and or to the muffler? How about the air filter? Is it clean and in tact inside the airbox? How does it run like crap, all the time, just when going slow, half throttle, full throttle? Does it idle? How is it when you first start it? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm trying to get a better idea of whats going on. It sounds like carburetor related to me, but we need more info.

If your stock, it shouldn't be rich out of the blue. If you lost an air filter etc, you would be lean.

Have you took the carb apart and blown air thru every jet?? Something stupid is going on IMHO........................

The exhaust is stock.it is sealed except it made a clean break where the muffler connects to head pipe.I put back together and clamped the crap out of it,and its fairly quiet.im going to get that welded though.the po had basically cut around the right screw on spark arrested to get it out,at some point, but its back in there held in with left screw.air filter is clean.and sealed in box with all hoses to there rightful spots.i say it runs like crap based on this.in the yard tonight farting around I'm doing wheelies and I give it gas and stumbles, kinda gotta goose it to pull up.so I took down our road and hesitates pretty good and let off the gas and backfires loud.now I should say the plug does not foul like a two stroke, but it gets real black with carbon.I hope I explained well enough.thanks

Compression test, spark timing/advance. Start with engine basics.

Low engine compression will make it impossible to get proper mixture due to low intake vacuum excessive crankcase pressure back thru breather line.

Is the cam chain adjustable on that engine? That cracked pipe isn't helping anything, no matter how quiet.

Is the cam chain adjustable on that engine? That cracked pipe isn't helping anything, no matter how quiet.I'm not sure if its adjustable, and I plan on having pipe welded back together.the motor has good compression it blows my thumb off spark plug hole.ill try to throw a tester on in next couple of days.I don't know why I didn't think of this before but maybe I have bad gas in it from the station?ill try deadpan just as precaution.

My 110 does this same thing. It will get to the point where it won't even start and I change it out and it runs like new again. Shouldn't have to do that with a 4 stroke though. I haven't taken the time to look into it more since I don't ride it very much.

What kind of spark plug? If its a champion, get rid of it for an NGK. Every Honda I've ever owned hated champions.

Check the model number of the carburetor which is stamped on the side of carb under the idle screw. What are the numbers and letters under the PD letters?

Take the jets out of the carb and see if they are the right size. Also check to see if your gas cap is breathing and your fuel valve and feul line or flowing. And as others said dont use champion plugs. They are for lawn mowers and harleys.

Check what position the c clip is on the needle. I bought one cheap that ran like crap and fouled plugs, put it back to stock setting, good as new.
