Ok so lets start from the beginning. I traded a 1994 125dr for the this trike. Once I got it home I had the usual need of tuning the carb and such because after 30 minutes of riding the bike starts pouring gas out of the air box... Ok so I take it
back home and take the carb off only to find the overflow/drain is completely epoxy shut.. Kind of upsetting but w/e. I open the carb and the float it bent like someone took one float and pushed it up as the other was forced down so I do not
know how it even ran.. Ok so I fixed that got it all evened out and right gas level, and had it running pretty good considering for about 4 months.. Then about a month ago I had to take the rear end apart to redo all the barrings because they
were all shot to hell =/..well suprise again the whole swing arm was filled with barnacles!!! So apparently the rear end was submerged somewhere this long... Great, ok so I finally got it all cleaned and spotless again, as well as finished the rear
end off about a week ago, and now i have had nothing but problems.. It has a perfect spark, as well as getting a kind amount of fuel, not flooding or over soaking the plug, and it just wont start now, BUT when it does it may run as if there is
way to much fuel to it, or it will run perfect, then ill take it out and it seems ok until I notice every gear it will bog at mid to high rpm, as well as when I let the throttle drop I cannot just start throttling again as it will just bog for a second or two then catch. When it does run like this enough to ride it smells a bit, but nothing to resemble flooding, as well as the plug shows its not running lean, nor to much fuel. Oh and to top it off the power if beautiful until I hit mid to high rpm as I had
said. Any help would be greatly appreciated and any other info needed ill gladly give.

I'm by no means a Yamaha expert, but I've heard others speak of symptoms similar to yours being caused by the spark controller (CDI) unit..since this unit controls spark advance thru the varying rpm ranges it's failure can cause power loss issues.

Hopefully some of the more experienced Yamaha guys get into this thread to verify and offer their suggestions, but I think that's where you may be going.

cdi is one option, the main needle being bent or worn is another, also the starter jet in the float bowl can cause hard starts. I would make sure to double check the carb again, as mikunis are super picky if something is wrong. After rechecking the carb I would then start looking at the cdi, also make sure you trim an 1/8th inch off of the end of the spark plug wire.

Hey, thanks for the replies but it turns out its worse then I thought... I broke down and bought a compression checker since it only costed me $28 and turns out the damn thing is only getting 78ish psi to the cylinder... Now my question is, does adding oil to plug hole and watching the psi go up mean the rings are bad? or what might it be just so I have a somewhat guess before opening up the head now =(
