Just had a 85 BW 200 given to me. Not really sure what to do so I am asking for advice... The enginge is smoked, I can hear the rod knock just kicking it over. The charge coil is shot.... cdi might be junk as well. I did some searching and parts for these things seem to be kinda rare and or pricey. My question is, are they even worth the effort now? The few items I mentioned would cost about a grand to fix buying new stuff and rebuilding the engine... The bike itself is in suprisingly good shape for its age and I had one brand new way back in the day.I really did like the bike. Are there any other engines that could be swapped in? I thought about a blaster engine...... Any ideas?

It's worth keeping, it would be cool to put a Tri Z engine in there or a 225dx or something. I see them very often on the Seattle Craigslist. I think someone on the forums here put a bw swinger on a Tecate!

A 225dx engine wouldn't work. Way to big and heavy, plus what would you do about the electric start?
On the other hand, if you have the money and time to rebuild the engine, go for it. Since it was just given to you it won't hurt to put a few hundred bucks into it because you can always sell it and make a profit. If you feel it's too much, part it out and make some money off it and bring some parts back into circulation.

I would offer to buy it from you to have for parts for mine. You are just a tad too far away
For me to drive to get a parts bike.

I would be interested in some parts if you decide to part it out. Like hoosierlogger I'd be interested in the whole bike if ya were closer. 5hrs away would cost me 200 alone in gas. Anyway, 225dx is shaft drive and would not work, not sure about a YTM 200k which is chain driven. Throw up some pics!
