Calvmx in connection with AMHRA will be having a 3 Wheeler only National event. This event will also kickoff the Imperial Invasion at the Imperial sand dunes.
Steve "Smitty" Schmidt will be the guest of honor. Dyno Dean Sundahl and Tommy Gaian will also be there for your autographs.
Classes are being worked out and we will have a better idea once we have an idea of rider turnout.
The track will be the Cahuilla Mx track in Anza california.
$50 per class up to 2 classes. $30 for a 3rd and $25 for members for a 3rd class.
This is the perfect track for 3 wheelers and is the closest to the Imperial sand dunes. Aprox 3-4 hrs away depending on the route you take.
Vintage B-vintage 0-265cc 2 stroke 0-360cc 4 stroke 3 wheelers pre 1988 with period correct modifications. Beginner/ Novice level riders.
Vintage A-vintage 0-265cc 2 stroke 0-360 4 stroke 3 wheelers pre 1988 with period correct mods. Intermediate/expert level riders.
open expert-open to anything all years and all mods.
Mini class-Anything based on an ATC 70 chassis. Minis will have their own special track. If enough show up.
If theres a big enough turnout and interest we acn do possible other classes such as
4 stroke vintage 0-500cc
2 stroke vintage
open vintage
The classes will be period correct mods and pre 1988.
Frank from Calvmx is working out the details and is working on sponsorship for the event.
Everyone who signs up will get a T-shirt and a catered lunch.
Camping is available at the track. The gate will be open on friday night for the late night arrivals.
To help with the event planning and if you plan on attending please sign up below and be sure to include what trike(s) you plan on racing. If you think you know your skill level you can add A or B if you want.
You can copy and paste this list while adding your name/machine/number. Also please add the year of your machine.
Attn: This thread will be updated from time to time as Calvmx provides more info.

There is a route through the Mountains you can take that will shorten the distance compared to the interstate route. It will be twisty at times and is a little trickier when towing.

MX and sand dune setups are going to be a bit different... but I'd really like to make this. I'm also thinking I might actually be riding one of my own bikes in the dunes if at all possible instead of riding Jason Halls' for a change...but we will see. I'd love to make it out there and participate in this.

I'm not ruling it out totally, but it's not in my DNA to just go ride around either. I'm also not giving up getting in shape,it's just going to be harder then I thought.
Mickey,
For whatever its worth (And I don't wanna derail the thread too much) but I was overweight my entire life, at 5'10 I crept up on the 245 mark a few times. Back in early 2011 I totally changed my outlook and way of eating thanks to this website, www.marksdailyapple.com using what is known as the "Primal Blueprint" method. The books are wonderful also. I ended up losing 70lbs in 8 months, that I've pretty much kept off since then doing basically zero exercise and working out... At my lowest I was 162lbs and I stay between 165-170 now. Eating good and clean isn't easy by any means, but its whole lot easier when you cut through the misinformation and eat red meats, fresh vegetables, etc. Not sure what your plan was but you might take a look at that. Its done wonders for me and several other people I know that have followed suit as well now.

As for the minis, the classes and rules will most likely evolve with sign up. We gotta see if the interest is there.

I take it not too many 200x's show up for these?
And as far as the rules go for ATC 70's it's stock frame only? I'm building one for short track so it's fine with me,but I didn't know if they were allowing suspension?
there have been 3 bikes that have run with us that would qualify for the 200CC class. Tanner brought out his 185S (next race he had a liquid R haha), a guy named Chris showed up with a 1st gen 200x and beat a couple 250's and a 350x, then there was that modified atc70 thing with the liquid cooled CR80 motor and tri z rear end...
Mickey if you bring it, there will be a class to run it in

What makes this a National race?
1.) it is one race...not a series
2.) it takes place on one track in one State
3.) no qualifiers to make it the best of the best from surrounding States
4.) no points to score other than moto 1&2
5.) a #1 plate given at this event holds zero weight Nationally
The title of National (the way you use it) is like calling a Yugo a Supercar....I just don't get it? Here in Ohio we have never put our series above anyone else or the programs they may run. Yes your historical and now histarical promoter needs to come to grips with reality. Is he offering a cash purse to the top three finishers or even a bumper sticker? Don't get me wrong I have nothing against your race...just the fact you think it's a National when it clearly isn't.
manbearpig
01-09-2014, 12:47 AM
still bitter about that Bengals loss i see..
but in all seriousness...
what separates this event from the pine lake atv national (with regard to three wheelers) aside from pine lake having been there since the 60's and attracting thousands of people?
Pine lake is one race, not a series
it takes place on one track, in one state
no qualifiers
no points outside of that event
...and yet you're comfortable calling this a national race, but not CALVMX's
This is being called a "national" because riders will be traveling from across the country to race. This race coincides with the dates for the imperial invasion so it was easier to coordinate and justify coming across the country to race when they were planning on being there for the invasion anyway. Will you be one of the ones traveling out to race? cant knock it until you try it.

To answer the PineLake National spin it has NEVER been promoted as a 3wheeler National. It is however a Quad National with an Invitation(from the land owner) to our beloved 3 wheeled community. The National Quad series travels to many States respectfully and holds a lot of weight. Never has the 3wheeled Ohio community tried to set our invitation above the Quad guys. Well at least in Ohio we know our place and roll as a supporting class of sportsmen.
I do have an open invatation to run this but can't afford to take the time off work. If I under stand you correctly TF is a National and the IceFest is too cause people travel in. That being said then The OTC series must be the Grand Daddy of them all! Know your roll Imperial Dunes is a camp out event with a race for 3wheers 3hrs away. Not exactly a linked event more of an oppurnity to pit East vs West which should be exciting.

hey no publicity is bad publicity. keep up with trying to put down the CALVMX race and it'll keep popping up on the new posts screen.
"Here in Ohio we have never put our series above anyone else or the programs they may run. "
"Never has the 3wheeled Ohio community tried to set our invitation above the Quad guys. Well at least in Ohio we know our place and roll as a supporting class of sportsmen"
No need to be condescending. Southern California racers are not putting themselves above someone else. Our race promoter LOVES us and wants to PROMOTE the sport instead of offering us up as a sideshow during the quad race intermissions. I guess we just have a different way of thinking out here. we dont consider ourselves second to the quads because our promoter has supported us as our own sport. CALVMX is not about big dollar sponsorships from big name companies like the quad race promoters are. there are no cash purses with CALVMX. its all about the vintage racing, nothing else. The drive and need to support only what is popular because its what brings in the most profit is not on CALVMX's agenda. That way, they can support whoever they want, sponsor and promote a Three wheeler ONLY event that is open to all races from across the country.
LOOK. just so we're clear, we're having a race with a "national" open invite. it does not fall under the traditional definition of what a quad or dirtbike national race is supposed to be, but how in the beginning stages of a three wheeler racing resurgence are we possibly expected to be able to qualify under your definition? theres only a handful of states racing three wheelers and thus far, there have not been any series that include races out west. OTC has paved the way along with NYTRO and other groups and we have openly extended an invitation to come out and race. you should be embracing that instead of trying to put down the CALVMX national.

Ok ManBearPig, I think we're pretty close to being on the same page here. I just want to be clear with you too. I am not taking away from your Invitational Event for the Nation. It shows in great pride you all conduct yourselves in a manor a Promoter is willing to offer special events, time and time again. To call any 3wheeler event a side show is condescending to anyone on the gate. If Bud Fisher considered the 3wheelers as a side show he would run us last gate of the day. Fact is he runs us just before the Pro Quads. Yes the mini mod 3wheeler class has been an intermission event and still lines the fences, just like the A & B classes( of larger trikes). My hopes for you all is continue what you all have started and grow it year after year. That being said if you crown a champion in the future IMO he will be the CALVMX Champion....not a National Champion. I will however recant that statement if any of the former OTC Series Champion comes and out right wins at your Invitational Event. I then would consider them the Fastest man on 3wheels.
I only root for the NFL team my family plays for....Go Phillips! Go Chargers!:beer

Calvmx will be crowning its fastest 3 wheeler riders on 1/26 at Glen Helen Raceway. The march 15th event is an open invitation to all 3 wheel rider nation wide.
This will be the biggest thing for the 3 wheeled movement the west coast has seen in decades. To call it a national is fine in my book. Its not just another round of racing...
The 16th is Calvmx points race. This is dedication to vintage 3 wheel racing.
Also....You wont find a better track for 3 wheelers anywhere than Cahuilla Creek. So cal weather is tough to beat too.
I have some back peddeling to do and some crow to eat....Looks like there my be a pre 1990 quad class. The more vintage riders, the better.
Billy Golightly
01-10-2014, 03:15 PM
...I doubt there will ever be a "national" in the definition of the quad and bike nationals because no one that rides or races three-wheelers could agree enough to make it happen :)
In any case, you guys look like you are going to have an awesome event there. David - I sent you a PM, give me a shout back when you get a chance.

REALLY COOL! For those that may have older quads in their stable bring them along. I spoke to Frank from CALVMX and as long as the quad was built before 1990(vintage in this case) it will be raceable. Quad classes will be determined on the day of the 3 wheel National based on the makes/models & riderability at sign ups. Like all CALVMX events, beginners are welcome.

Trying to plan for the commute from Yuma to cali for the big race(not nationals). I do not live in Yuma just trying to help out with east coasters getting to the race. If I don't have enough people I will save myself money by going straight to races and down to the dunes.
So with that being said I need anybody interested in going to contact me by march 1st so we can continue with plans. I will be leaving Yuma on Friday March 14th afternoon or evening, no later than 7pm if possible. We will not leave anyone if they are coming in later. The bus will return to Yuma on sunday after races. I have a motor home that will sleep 4 people and an enclosed trailer that can sleep 10 to 12. I have room for all bikes and gear for whom ever wants to go. I will have short showers for people until water runs out but thee maybe water at track. Bring your own bed rolls, clothes and food. I will have bbq.
Dead line for reservations is March 1st so I can make other plans if needed.

:welcome::welcome::welcome:nice work Tom. for so long a top goal of mine along with promoting trikes in general has been to honor the old icons in some way, and when this event sprung up I naturally thought first of my close friend Tom Gaian as being one of the ones to be honored, but I can say that your choice of Smitty fits perfect with this first National as being the honoree, and I would like to thank you in all the behind the scenes groundwork that you have been doing (BY YOURSELF) to make it so for the past couple of months....I really dont expect all the flunks here know Smitty now, I dont even think the admins, owners and 99.9% of the old timers here know him, .....which is an absolute laughing joke considering this a wheeler site//////////// but one things for sure after the event, they will never forget...:banned::banned::banned:

tons of fun, bless Smitty's heart, was asked to tell a story with the mic but got a bit choked up, and could only get out, "thanks for coming trikers, 3 wheeler are the best".....i got to see the 200cc 2nd moto start, mr.clean got the holeshot and with his ride and his swag, it looked awesome, hope she got a good pic.....poco loco and Nos350x had a good battle first race with poco loco leading the whole way, second moto Carmen Cafro got the holeshot then poco loco overtook him thru some jumps to make it a very satisfying win for him....dham, 3wheelroofer, and manbearpig tore it up as usual, Tanner was flying all over the place which is awesome because his machine is a bit clappy, but nevertheless he hauled, the eastcoast boys tore it up like they owned it too, was great to see Kimmie and Bill and awesome that they threw down many presidents to make it here to continually support 3 wheeler racing with extreme dedication...

Thanks for the compliments at the race and here!!! But the holeshot was due to a flawed start. The gate did not drop all the way and then when he did something to the mechanism it dropped, and I took off. Mrs. Clean got all the photos to show the confusion.
I talked to the starter that night and he said it should have been red flagged and re-start. The last Trike Moto on Sunday we started with him raising a flag as the gate no longer functioned!
