Dear all

I've seen both for sale here in the UK and was thinking about buying one of them.

Is there a lot of difference between the two in terms of performance and reliability? Are there any known problems to look anything to look out for?

From what I can gather the earlier model is air cooled. Aside from my folks old Honda Big Red, I have no experience with Honda. Any comment would be greatly appreciated!:)

Many thanks,

David

They are both great bikes. The 86 R goes for a LOT more money, and is more sought after, with the 6 speed trans, liquid cooling, and updated everything it seemed like. The 83R is a good bike too though, has that true vintage Honda Elsinore look to it, and 2nd gen Rs had 2nd best suspension in all the Honda atcs after the liquid models IMO. The air cooled Rs were much more restricted from the factory, but if you allow them to flow better, with a few bolt on mods, they really wake up and will surprise you! If both bikes were the same price, I would get the liquid, as there is a bigger market for them in sales and performance parts, but if you can get the air cooled bike on the cheap, don't pass it up!
