I could swear the 2007 Harley Dyna I had with power commander and 2:1 samsons had more torque than my Yamaha Road Star Warrior.
Yamaha 102 cubic inches V twin
Harley 96 cubic inches V twin
Whats your opinion. My appetite for big road bikes can never be 100% satisfied. I guess I miss my harley but I love the handling and worry free

The dynas, softails, & touring bikes are now 103's with the CVO models having 110's. Plenty of power there. Add the Dyno Jet , open up the exhaust and air flow to the carb and your going to get some wicked power

I know to the large displacement guys my cx500 is smallbus, but that thing gets me every ware and back. And with a picture or two of all the places ive been on that thing the smallbus factor fades. Also my bike looks distinct never has anyone confused my bike with a harley.
Now as to the reason the mighty HD is inferior well the facts will do. My 500 acheves 47hp.that is more than a 883skirtster. A later model of my cx uses a pro link monoshock rear end, when is the last upgrade, current sportsters use twin rear coil overs.my bike all regular maintanence without removing the gas tank, all this by honda back in 82. It took HD to back stab erik buel to sell one model with over 100 hp (the vrod) Suzuki had one in the 70s, since the final raping of the buel engien works HD has been without an engine program. I ride a classic with more modern tecnology and better function (dirt drivways up a mountain, do that on a HD) than what any company who remindes the buyer with semingly every pice of propaganda about the name or history or how classic things are. To leave u with a relevant quote buy some one as far from riding and old scool/salt as they ever been my late grandfather " never did i think my daughters would be hanging around with boys who ride those things, they look the same as... before"(marrage).
Ride what u like but be honest with yourself, if the best is having another weight adding chrome dodad to clean, then leave the traveler who would share of sights far and away, to peer into that reflection of ones self, and ask how does tradition and being one of the crowd compare to GET IT RAG

Check out Harley's newest models....Barking right down your street sanchez....not sure about the dirt roads but a cafe racer style bike none the less in the lower cc range. Long over due in my opinion. I hear ya with the Eric Buell scenerio. Big loss for HD IMHO.

Yamaha. This isn't geared toward you Sweetip...Did you ever have any trouble with your DYNA? I get a kick out of people who never rode a Harley, never mind owned one, talk crap about them.. Until you've owned one, what the hell gives you the right to criticize one? I've had my 03 Dyna Low Rider since 2005, and guess what? It never left me stranded or broken down in over 30,000 plus miles. And I beat the crap out of it all the time.. The only thing I've ever done to it has been batteries and brake pads, and the occasional K&N cleaning. I'd be willing to bet that the only reason you have these opinions, it's because you read something somewhere correct? and let me guess, a magazine that predominately showcased jap bikes? Look it's all about personal preference! I ride red on the dirt, and HD on the street. before you bash something get your facts straight..

I dont know WTF you are talking about. I never said anything bad about harley. I have been riding harley since 1972. I have owned many harleys over the years. As a matter of fact I used to race them back in the 1970's when everyone else was riding euro dirt bikes and jap bikes were just emerging into motox. I got my ass handed to me by the big euro bikes like CZ and Husky, What I mentioned in my original post was that it felt like the dyna has more power than the yamaha I am riding now. No harm done. Take care of yourself.

Sorry, I should've worded it a little better/different.... I should.ve left out the sentence "Did you ever have any trouble with your DYNA? sorry my mistake...I was just venting on the people that probably never sat on, rode, or owned a HD. And most of the people on this site are totally biased against them anyways...I will take care of myself, thanks for the concern...

Something the Harley bashers don't get:The people who ride Harleys don't care about all the negative things listed in sanchez's post. We ride them for what they are, not what they aren't, hence the the Harley motto "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand".
Harleys can't handle dirt roads? :wondering
Personally, I don't care what ya ride. ;)

That's a nice harley you have. I will most likely go with another 88 cube if its a good runner.
The Dyna is the hells angels choice for a bike and you get the most nut for the buck and it handles the best out of all the big twins. I love the dyna. Now I will take care of myself

Thanks, had It dyno'd a few years back, came up wth 76.24 hp with 80.80 ft lbs. As far as I know, it only has the PYTHHON pipes,, and the hyper charger kit on it..
I dont own a street bike and i tend to dislike bikers as a group but in the last couple months i've come up with a new train of thought for harley. They are one of the few companies in the world that has stuck to their roots and they catch a lot of trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro for it. Metallic releases the black album and they are sell outs. GM had no rear wheel drive cars other than the vette in the early 00's and they're sell outs. Harley continues to pump out air cooled twins and they're a poorly run company? I think as a society we just like to pick apart things, im the first to admit that i can find something wrong with anything you set in front of me. But the way im starting to see it is if you like whatever you have you shouldnthave to justify it. Sweetip, you sound like me. Anything i have i look at and think of what i dont like about it. Currently i dont own one running trike and i have three that are in various stages of build because i want something that in my eyes is flawless. If you like everythin on your bike other than the motor i say tear it down and make it how you like it.

Well said 86T3.. Before I got my HD, I owned a 2001 ZRX1200R.. The fastest bike I ever owned.. unfortunately I crashed it..http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll124/tankispmaximus/mixedpictures152.jpg (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/tankispmaximus/media/mixedpictures152.jpg.html)

Yeah a Harley certainly will slow you down. LOL. nothing against them. I have never owned but rode several models friends had. But I prefer speed. I rode a Honda VTX 1800 once and just will never understand the point of owning a Harley. Even my friends Suzuki Intruder would walk all over Harleys. More power, smoother and more comfortable. I love buying American but for what a Harley is and how much they cost, I just do not think it is worth it.
To make one fast you have to dump a whole bunch more money on top of the bike price. And I have heard from 2 owners of S&S motors that they need more maintenance and work than they are worth.
Either way I will probably never own a V-twin bike because I love Café racer style bikes. No hate for the Harley, I wave just the same when I see another rider.
Never like seeing pics of crashed bikes. Makes me shiver just thinking about it. Broken bones and road rash. Glad you are ok. Knock on wood I have not laid one down yet and hope to not have to. My friend laid down his Ducati and told me how they have to scrub the road rash at the hospital. I can handle some pain but they would have to strap me down.
My buddies who were there when I crashed my 250r and separated my shoulder (avatar) still laugh to this day. Just about the time they were starting to wonder where I went, here I come walking in holding my arm up in place and just said " alright who is taking me to the hospital. I think I broke my shoulder."

Crashing that Kawi had to hurt in more than one way. One of my favorite models of all time, that one was beautiful. Glad you are OK!
I will ride em all. My buddy Brandon just got a 1600 vstar and he loves it. Nate has a 2013 Street Bob and he loves it. Tim has an 87 FXR (that will pull tall wheelies all day long) and he loves it.
I mostly am a Kawasaki fan, but I would love to have one of the new 750cc Harleys.

I'm jealous of the road riders.
This area is like a rain forest with very low visibility with all the lush foliage.
Know more than one person who has cut a deer in half at 50 mph.
Not intended as a wise^%$ question but I can't seem to get used to a beautiful, rounded chrome headlight and stuff up top.
Seems to lazer focus sunlight right at my eyes and hard to get around for me.
Then again, I had to blackout the throttle housing on my atc90.
It was like getting punched in the face when the sun would hit it just right.

Here's my friend Tims FXR.
184490
The engine was built by Micah Mclosky (lookup the 322 mph harley on RB racing site, he built the engine for that as well)
This is the fastest 80 inch (around 88 now) Harley I have ever seen.

Yea, crashing that bike really sucked, it was by far the nicest machine I've ever owned. Bought it in 03 with 740 miles on it. payed 6k for it.. crashed it in 05 had 9k on it.. got $1800 for it crashed. Had my Harley in my garage 2 weeks after I crashed.. and still have it to this day..

yamaha.A Harley is a Harley, everything else is an imitation.
I like the stock 70's FLH models.
When I would ride mine, I left the house with the thought that it might not get me to where i was going, so whenever it did, it was like a bonus.
If I wanted to be sure I would get to where I was going I would drive a Hundai or a Toyota.
If i wanted a bike that handled and went fast, I'd simply buy a new Kawi Nninja. They only go 197 mph and 0-100 in 5.5 seconds
I like vintage stuff, imo, a new Jag is not a Jag [some now have Ford engines], a new Mustang is not a Mustang. Sure they will definitely get you to where you are going at 0 - 60 in 5 seconds with 400 hp, 35 mpg, heated leather seats and wine glass holders, but where's the fun in that?

I think the yamaha/harley debate is an apples to oranges thing for sure. Both are awesome in their own way and I have no preference.
Power wise, I can't speak for the 102, but I've seen a 1602cc (bout 98") yammi race a 2013 96" dyna, both were stock, both excellent riders, and the Dyna beat it through every gear.
The Yamaha, 05 I believe, has never had anything but maintenance. The 2013 Dyna has been in for electrical repairs 3 times, albeit with excellent customer service each time at Scottsdale Harley.
If I get a cruiser it will be a Kawasaki Vulcan 2000.
