Do all fuel pumps make a clicking noise? It's fast at first and then kind of slows. I'm changing the fuel filter today (have to take the current one off to make the match). I'm thinking about adding a shut off valve between the fuel filter and the carburetor. Just so when I want to set it up for a week or so I can run all the gas out of the bowl, then choke it until it dies to get all the stuff out of the carb.

Is it okay to shut off fuel to the carb with a valve? That won't damage the fuel pump will it?

The one I had made the exact same clicking noises. I don't know if it would hurt the pump to run it dry or not however. I didn't have it long enough to test that.

I was thinking more about between the pump and the carb. That way it would just pump into a closed valve at 1.2-2.2 psi. That way I could run the bowl dry and then choke it dry for storage. I'm going to take a pic of the filter today and see if I can match it at oreilly's or autozone (been pouring down here in SETX).

From what I've found on the web, I think the things just click when they are pumping. Someone said cleaning/changing the fuel filter regularly helped it a bit. I'm not sure if you can clean the pump or not.

I changed the fuel filter. It still clicks, but not as long though (builds up pressure quicker now). A 30 year old fuel filter gunking up and preventing optimal fuel flow to pump, makes sense.
