Holy smokes she's chilly! I see on the weather network that lot's of Provinces and States are getting the stuffing kicked out of them. Hope this isn't a sign of the rest of the winter! At least Cold Lake will be ready for riding next weekend:Bounce

I was suppose to go to Edmonton on Monday, looked at the weather channel and decided to stay home.
I honestly don't know how you do it. It's 16 here and I'm going out of my mind. I now the landscape is beyond beautiful up there, but I just couldn't do it. Everything hurts when its cold, you have to bundle up like the Michelin Man, and nothing wants to work. Now, come summer time up north, sign me up.

Yea, the Texans get this from Canada and blame me for it! I was in South Texas yesterday. Temp hit 30C at 3:00pm. By 5:00pm it was 19, then 12 by 8:00pm and this morning it was 4C, I drove home this afternoon and the weather followed me. Looks like it's going to stay a while.
Yea its a bit "nippley" out :lol...

We got some sleet and a dusting. Sleds and dozer are ready to go,and I never get to use them anymore.. The cold is coming now,but no snow :( :(

I know :) And unfortunately for me. That is exactly what it has become here. Tons of heating bills and friggin brown frozen mud.. I still love every inch we do get though.

It's funny but I've never owned a sled in my life. If I did it would be an old Elan or something like that. We don't normally get the huge amounts of snow at once like can happen in other parts of the country, just little events that the ATV's can plow through or just wait and ride on the skidoo trails. Once our snow comes in late October early November it's here until April; no risk of melting here, lol.

You get used to it, tasks become slower and you have to drink more (water that is) than in the summer if that makes sense. I don't know how the lower states can handle the 100 degree heat and 90% humidity. At least I can dress for the cold, that other stuff you can have.

Honestly I'm a California weather guy, but can't afford to live there. I've got corvette taste and a chevette pocket book.
I guess it's all relative, if I was born up north it would be second nature to me and vice versa.

I can't seem to post this all at once, so here is part one of three to give you an idea of what you are missing Bill. Alberta does get mentioned in the end, but back when I lived (actually it was more like survival) just North of the "Peg" we envied Albertans for their mild Chinook winds that broke up the winter into mini cold spells and not 6 month deep freezes. Sorry Cool Pool, I can have no sympathy for you until it stays below -40 for at least 2 straight weeks;)
Life In Winnipeg Part ONE
Aug 12 Moved to our new home in Winnipeg. It is so beautiful
here. The prairies are so vast, can hardly wait to see
the fields covered with snow. Love it here.
Oct 14 Winnipeg is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves
are all turned different colours and shades of red and orange.
Went for a ride through the beautiful farmland and saw
some Deer. They are so graceful, certainly the most
beautiful creature on earth. This must be paradise. I love it
here.
Nov 11 Deer season starts soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to
kill such a beautiful creature. Hope it will snow soon.
Dec 02 It snowed last night. Woke up to find it blanketed in
white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and
cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the
driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won) and when the
snow plough came by, we had to shovel the driveway
again. What a beautiful place. I love Winnipeg.
Dec 12 More snow last night. I love it, the snowplough did his
trick again to the driveway. I love it here.

Life In Winnipeg Part TWO
Dec 19 More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to
get to work. I am exhausted shoveling snow. Freaking snow plough.
Dec 22 More of that white trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro fell last night. I've got
blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think that snow plough
hides around the curve and waits until I'm done shoveling the
driveway. Azzhole!
Dec 25 Merry Freaking Christmas!! More friggen snow. If I ever
get my hands on that son of a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro who drives that snow plough, I
swear I'll kill the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro. Don't know why they don't use more
salt on the roads to melt the friggen snow.

Life In Winnipeg Part THREE
Dec 27 More white trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro last night. Been inside for 3 days,
except for shoveling out the driveway every time the snow plough
goes by. Can't go anywhere, car's stuck in a mountain of white
trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. The weatherman says to expect another 10" of the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro again
tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10" is?
Dec 28 The trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro weatherman was wrong. We got 34" of that
white trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro this time. At this rate it won't melt before next
summer. The snow plough got stuck up the road and that trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro
came to the door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him
how I had broken six shovels already shoveling all the sh*t he
pushed into my driveway, I broke my last shovel over his trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro
head.
Jan 04 Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to
get food and on my way back, a fricking deer ran out in front of
the car and I hit it. Did about $3,000 damage to the car. Those
f*cking beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them
all last November.
May 03 Moved to Alberta. I can't imagine anyone in their right
mind that would ever live in the God forsaken province of Manitoba.

Lol,seen that before. My nephew is living an hour and a half above Ottawa. So, he knows snow. He lived IN Ottawa 10 years. That's like Hawaii compared to where he lives now. My Sister and Brother in law live in North Pole Alaska. As we speak, there is 3-4 inches of SOLID ice on the highways. Was this way all last year. It was -40 around Thanksgiving. -50 for over 2 months the last 2 winters. Batteries exploding etc. Days where it's -70. Feet upon feet of snow. No where to pile it after a while, they have to haul it away. When I was growing up,we measured our snow in feet. April sled riding was the cats ass. I would go out and boondock alone, and after the snow would melt we'd see all the boulders and logs and stumps we'd ridden over. Something has DRASTICALLY changed here! We had snow from Thanksgiving to almost May. Now as I said,we're lucky to have 2 feet cumulatively all year :(

Ha ha good story El Cam, but sorry to school you a little, Chinooks are only in the Eastern foothills from Calgary on down. I used to live in Cowtown for 6 years and loved it, -30 going to bed and +10 waking up, Chinooks rock! Nothing like that up this way unfortunately. And you're right, Winnepeg is the a**hole of the earth. hated every minute of it when I would have to go there in the Army.

That's just nuts! We sent a crew to Gillam MB one winter (its a destination on Ice Road Truckers) and they were happy when temps got up to -50. Burrrrrrrr!!!
I spent a week in Regina SK once when temps with the wind chill dropped to an equivelent of -76C and it snowed like a MF. I was a flat broke door to door salesman at the time and had to sell enough to pay my hotel and food each day and I didn't have the clothes for it. Try getting people to open thier doors to buy something in that weather! I ended up cashing a bad cheque into a bank machine to survive. I will never forget that week as long as I live.

It is certifiably beyond nuts actually :) Zero light, complete darkness,-40- -75 below zero. Furnace goes out and within MINUTES everything is frozen.. Furnaces trying to flip the air 140 degrees,,THINK about that :)) My Nieces ex was on ice road truckers. I still am trying to get my head around the story that I obviously misunderstood. He FLEW over 2 hours North from Fairbanks.. I never looked at a map,but I asked them 3 times. FLEW,,2 hours NORTH out of North Pole, to Dead Horse where he worked. Maybe that included the arduous Drive in.. I dunno. They split and I'll never see him again. I will say this. He was a super awesome great kid,and I think he was probably the most speechless person to ever come through here 3 wheeler wise! He said up there,,IF,,,you here of a 3 wheeler for sale. You drop anything you're doing including surgery lol,, and RACE to try and go get it,even if it's just a bare frame!! So,to see a collection ,,simply left him speechless. It was cool to see :) He had only ever seen a 110,200ES and a 250R. I was realy shocked to see that R for sale in AK in the classifieds here a cpl weeks ago. Seemed cheap too, for up there.

Forget furnaces and having to leave the trucks running 24/7 because shutting them off for 30 minutes might mean they don't start again. Think about the complications of performing one of the most taken for granted functions of the male body; outdoor urination.
First you have to remove your mitts subjecting your fingers to being frozen in seconds
Now you have to undo numerous layers of clothing in order to find your "hose"
Once you have opened up your clothing you have to go in with frozen numb hands and start looking for your best friend who is trying to hide from you.
I don't care if you're John Holmes, -40 air turns any shower into a grower into in a split second
Now with your frozen hands you have to pull your shriveled nub past 5" of underwear and overwear so as not to wizz inside your clothing
Once it is extended beyond the your clothing you have to release your death grip enough so that flow can begin which is difficult because you can’t even feel your finger tips
As flow begins you look down only to realize your urine is freezing before it hits the snow
Once you have relived yourself there is the issue of the shake. With everything frozen or numb to your elbows the obvious fear is that a good shake could break something off. Proceed at your own risk.

It is SO good to have you back BC :). You always have the greatest of insight! In all seriousness. I guess when you spit ,it IS froze well before it hits the ground. If you don't leave your vehicle running while you shop, there's plug ins at every meter to plug your block heater in. Every fluid in every new vehicle gets flushed, and replaced with "Alaska" fluids.. Better them than me,BUT,it is Gods country.

Way up North the company trucks are left idling all winter long (pitty the poor SOB that buys that low milage one year old truck when it is driven South in the spring with no lobes left on the cams:lol:) Our shopping malls don't have plugs, but they may in Alaska and yes, spit lands as ice at -40 if there is any breeze at all and the girls still wear short skits to the bar all year round.

Not sure how we did it, probably didn't know amy better but made snow at ski areas.
Blowing water and air at whatever below zero.
Blew 16 feet one night as the wind tumbled over the top of the mtn and caught it just right.
..say 300 yards long?
We'd be slightly covered like a glazed donut.
Go inside the shop at 85 woodheat degrees F where all equip was tryinto melt and we'd start shivvering.
Go back outside, outher layers of clothes would refreeze and we warm right up again.
HARD work so the sweat would have to wick to the outer layers and freeze.
Completely nutts, in retrospect.
Now wondering why hot water lines will freeze before cold...unless that was the old geezer way of messing with our heads.
