I have a 1980 Honda atc 110 and it does not run. It has compression but no spark. Where do I start? Any tips and instructions? I have cleaned the carb and thats about it cause I don't really know anything about the electrical. Please help thanks!

Is this only thing needed?

How hard are they to replace, and do they need to be timed or something?

Its not that hard to replace, unscrew it and remove it, take the wire off and then reassemble with the new set of points. Then you just set the gap on the points with a feeler gauge and your good to go. All the info is in the service manual, check the link below in my signature to go to my manuals website and grab a copy.
Fellow Minnesotan here as well!
