I have mixed feelings on this one. The poor cop is just doing his job. But,,it is damn refreshing to see a guy who knows his rights :) :)..Especially when it comes to CC :)

Try that in NYC and your head would be caved in with a boot and tazer up your kazoo. If he didn't know the law his gun would have been taken and he would have been doing time in jail.
Check out this chick named Tami Pepperman.

Man what a little prlck!! It was just police responding to a public concern of a man carrying a weapon in public..
Poor guys have to deal with everyone who thinks they are a lawyer..spouting case precedence to police.
Just show your ID and be cooperative..they would have let him walk.
If he had been a thug and walked into a corner store two blocks away and killed three people the cops would have taken the wrap for not verifying this guy was not a public risk..
They shouldn't have backed down but thrown him in a cruiser for failing to cooperate with police. A quick trip to the station until it all got cleared up would have mellowed this little dlck out..they would have checked him and let him go.
Police weren't being unreasonable..just be nice and lets all just get along!!
Walking down the street with a weapon, what kinda jerk does that anyway???

If my kid came home and said "dad, I saw a guy up the street washing his car"..not really newsworthy!!
But if she came home and said "dad, I watch a guy walk up the street carrying a handgun!!"..
If you think these are things of equal concern we clearly live in neighborhoods with VERY different standards of acceptable behavior!! I think I'll stay out of Indian Falls!

I don't have time to watch yet another video about gun rights... But i will say this, if you got a gun, you got a carry permit, then you got every right to carry it around regardless of reason.
Look at that guy on the news last week, i think it was out west somewhere, that had his gun on him and some punks tried the knockout game on him... He didnt leave the house fearing for his life, he didnt expect to become a victim, but because he was prepared he didn't become a victim and two little punks went to the ER... One with a slug in his left rear and the other with one in his leg.
Now i see by the comments this guy was a jerk about it... Law student or not, if your carrying and your approached by an officer doing his job, say good sir how may i help you, oh the gun, i am licensed to carry, yes of course you can see my permit, thank you sir have a nice day and move on... Not that hard.

Based on the sheer amount of information the guy dumped on the officer and the fact that he would not give his name I suspect that was in fact our very own barnett468 behind the camera
Within his rights or not I don't know a lot of cops that wouldn't have taken that guy for an "elevator ride".
Did you hear him mention the low ZDDP level oil in the cop car about 3/4 of the way in?
I guess that that was a little uncalled for, I need to stop ranking on the guy
The police officer should know whether or not open carry is legal within his jurisdiction. If its legal and the guy is showing no signs of illegal activity, then it's no different than stopping a guy because of race.

In michigan if you have a concealed pistol license, you can open carry a pistol pretty much anywhere including public schools. There are quite a few people that open carry, you have probably been around it but never noticed. Also Michigan is not a stop and ID state so if the police ask for your ID for carrying a gun on your belt you don't have to comply. It would be the same as getting pulled over in your car just to see if you have a drivers license.
The problem is most of the cops have no idea what the laws are and they get pist when they have to be schooled by a citizen. A local cop here was arguing with me about gun laws and unfortunately he has no idea about where a person can and cannot carry a weapon. I carry a pistol with me every time I leave the house and I refuse to be hassled by some hero cop that don't know sh!t about the laws that they swore under oath to uphold.

This wasn't local. In fact I think it was like in Indiana or something.
Besides, while the cop wasn't going full retard like so many you see on YouTube do, this guy was clearly in the right. Eventually the cop gave in when he knew he was wrong. The guy did nothing wrong and the cop had 0 authority to stop him. If it's a public response, all the cop had to do was observe the guy with the gun.

Briano, I've somehow managed to survive the 1st 46 years of my life not carrying a sidearm in public..pretty sure I'll make it thru the next ??? years.
Are things really so different between here and there?
I hope there isn't a tone read into this, none is intended..
This is a genuine question, I'm truely interested in a genuine answer..not just because it's my right as an American! I've heard that one already..
But for what reason do you feel it's necessary to carry a weapon everytime you leave the house??

Doug, I think you need to go spend a little time in Winnipeg's North end to fully appreciate the security and comfort a firearm can bring to the carrier.
Seriously, I love being in Texas where I know pretty much everyone (but me) is packing. I like it because I know that if any nut job starts shooting there will be a dozen law abiding citizens that are more than willing to bring him down on the spot. I also like that if say Big Brotha (spelt like that no particular reason) ever decided he was deserving of a 3rd term in order to complete his distruction of a once great nation them good old boys down here are packing enough combined fire power to take out him and North Korea. In Canada if a criminal starts shooting at you in your back yard it would take 10 minutes get into the house, unlock the two separate ammo and gun safes and get back just in time to identify your loved ones. I won't even get into what it is like in Mexico where most all guns are illegal, yet somehow EVERY bad guy has one. I've seen it from all the NAFTA perspectives and I prefer the American Red State laws to the rest. Then again, if I could live somewhere where NO ONE had a gun (not even the cops) I’d be all for it, but as long as there is one gun out there I thing everyone else should have one too.
Just my 2 cents.

I guess north of the border is a lot different then down here... No insults or otherwise intended... But down here you could be walking down the street and have someone try to face punch you.

I carry because there are getting to be a lot more crazies around here. The drugs, especially meth is getting out of control. There are break ins and robberies all the time lately. I just refuse to have me or my family become a victim. Even my 2 year old daughter gets a kick out of daddy taking his gun. Every time she sees me put it in my pocket she says, "daddy's gun, bam bam bam". To me there are worse things for her to see, and knowing she is safe when she's with me makes me feel good.
Last summer I was taking her for a walk in her stroller, I had my .38 on one side of my belt and my 9mm on the other. The neighbor guy asked where the war is, I informed him there was several recent cougar sightings in the neighborhood, including 2 goats being killed. Also there have been several different wolves hanging around, again, me or my loved ones will not be victims.
Well Doug that's my reasoning. No tone read here, also, no tone in my response. Sometimes I carry just because I can, I have my concealed license so I can carry pretty much anywhere. I mostly conceal as do a lot of other people that I know.

Yeah, very enlightening..nice no one got their panties in a bunch.
It can be a touchy subject..some gun owners can be like the "I won't wear a helmet 'cuz it's my right to die doing what I like, the way I like it" guys!

in massachusetts (i know, it sucks here) the law states "when in public, must produce valid (gun) license to an officer upon demand." who is the jerk in the video? you think that cop is a bad guy? like he's personally attacking your second amendment rights? or do you think he's a good guy who wants your family to be safe and is willing to confront an armed man to keep them that way? are there any lawyers out there? i'm not 100% sure that all that jim v. sam jargon was correct. the whole thing stinks.

It's clear that in the US some people have taken their "constitutional rights" to the level of "plss off, you don't have the right to ask my name"..
True their are bad police out their, but I'm sure the police will say no one respects their authority anymore and they are constantly under fire from the public in general. If I were a cop, I'd probably get a chip on my shoulder and be much more likely behave badly in a stressful situation too.
If everyone could just get back to basic, old fashion respect..it doesn't have to be a pissing match between a guy who it stopped on the street because a citizen called about a man carrying a gun!
Be polite, cooperative, and honest with law enforcement, they were just asking questions in order to ensure public safety..we should thank them for their service as we do men like Fabio(other members also..no intentionally ommiting you, just making an example)!!
