Hello, fellow trike fan. My wife loves riding with me and wanted a trike also. So bought her a 1985 200x. Currently rebuilding it in our living room. Had a vacume leak, wd40 let me know was the head gasket. Well tore the motor out and the head looks like crap. Everything was loose, including top motor mount, head bolts, etc. Cam was able to move a bit, cam and journals scored. So looking to get a new head and cap. My question is what all fits. It looks the same as a big red and other 200's. Will any fit? would open up my shopping possibilities with price and quality. Also the thought of having a compression release lever would be nice for her to kick it. Everything else looks nice, pretty solid trike. not bad for 450 bux. Thanks for any input, BB.183057183057

if everything was loose, then the issue was someone never did their maintenance. the rod end nuts may have loosened out some. I check my motors every 6 moths but at a minimum you should check every 12 months. heads are not that expensive so any 200cc head will work. some of the 185's have smaller valves so I would probably not use that just in case. you also need to ensure you get the "head assembly" meaning the head and cam cover. as they are a matching set from Honda. they are both bearing surfaces and if not matched properly, it will cause binding on the cam.
good luck. I figure you can get a good sued head and gasket set and get it running for under $150.

Thanks for the help. Crap ton of heads on ebay. I gonna dig here i got some 185 engines somewhere in a barn. Cheaper than I thought that for sure. Thanks darkness, i got to ride it a bit when running rough, handles awesome. Being smaller can throw it around. Cant wait to ride it when I'm done.

After measuring some more, seems to be aftermarket cam... Both lobes about .012-.015 bigger than the book specs. The small end journal of the cam .008 under the service limit. Sucks aftermarket cams pricey. Gonna go back to stock. Then piston .001 till limit and cylinder .001 to service limit. Gonna do a re bore and wiseco while i got it apart now.

Hey guys still have not found a head and cap on ebay that looks good enough to buy. Wife crackin the whip.... Ok so the manual I have is clymer atc185-200. The specs listed are all different. the 200x is slightly bigger in everything. So again should get a 200x head for it. Only other thing I would like to know about is a xr200 head. What years swap? They look the same well into the 90s. What year does it go to? Would be nice to plug on a 90s xr head. Just always a gamble to buy something off of pictures.... hate it. You see parts where they did not even take the time to clean it. That tells me they dont give a crap. Then the nice ones could be a polished turd. I know my luck, I get ripped all the time. I traded a gun and 400 bux for another 250r motor from a guy on clist, seemed legit and a good mechanic. Motor was a POS, didnt have 3 case bolts in, had multiple stripped and broken bolts in it... All I got was a nice hot rods crank. didn't go back because I knew what the gun I traded him could do.... Back on track tho, any help would be nice, maybe a point to a post where some has done the swap? Any help greatly appreciated, BB

Since I sell a lot of bike parts on eBay, I wanted to give my input on this, not to start crap bullet, because your points are very valid and I want to share my point of view.
Never buy a used part based on just a picture, always contact the seller and "feel him out", ask questions, if he doesn't spend the time to answer then you'll know he doesn't care.
Very often shipping costs and disassembly time are the reasons for not cleaning parts. It takes time and money to acquire, remove, list, box, store, invoice, file and ship a part. By the time you do all that, often times you are left wondering why you spent an hour cleaning a part that you just made $5 off of.
The other part to this is that often times less honest sellers thouroghly clean junk parts, or even show pics of parts that are in better condition.
XR200 cam, head, and carb with the 200x intake boot, bored out is best, will work great. The cam is like $80 brand new from service Honda.

If your still looking for a 200x head I have a new old stock head and valve cover , no valves or rockers installed yet but I can do that as well .
