Hey guys, I will always ride but my MX days may be over, even in my own backyard I may have to tone it down some.
After the accident on Oct 5th, maybe a month later I realized I was losing my balance worse than before. I honestly have never had good balance; I walk my flat footed feet outwards like a duck.
The VERTIGO seems to be tapped out at this point but it's not good. I tie my shoes, raise my head and stand up, and I nearly fall over.
I saw a Neurologist a week or so back and she gave me some things to do to help me and we will see. I almost brought my helmet to show how hard my head hit the ground on the left side where I had the clavicle and the 28 fractures in my ribs.
Lets hope she is correct, I will get going on the exercises or see a specialist. Maybe an MRI will show up but my balance is off really bad :(
It's a New Year and many of us have goals we've set; I have MANY that I merely ask help to improve upon, not a 100% change because realistically, old habits die hard.
Anyhow, Happy New Year all, I am not quitting ridding but at this point I cannot ride to the same level I was. But I am hoping to raise that bar...........:beer

Well for one, time for a new helmet. Two,your not giving up before you get started.Three I want to see some more videos of your back yard crazziness. To early to tell the damage that is done. You had one nasty accident.Going to take some time to totally heal up.That is the thing that sucks the most about getting old.Well other than maybe a little extra weight added on.One thing I'm going to work on,plus seat time. The New Year has just begun.Gotta try to make it a good one!

Have they taken a good look at your ears? Are you keeping well hydrated? I have been battling mild vertigo for about 5 years now (due to ear issues) and I seem to have it pretty much under control thanks to some simple exercises and knowing what brings it on. I hope you can find something that works for you.

You are very fortunate you had a helmet on. A lot of riders don't (I'm even at fault here), and that is how you can get killed. It doesn't take much. The last thing we need is another person falling victim to the "three wheelers are dangerous" stereotype, regardless of if the accident was inevitable, or whoever's fault it was. That said, I hope you feel better, things get better, and you can continue to ride in the style you love.

Thanks, you said it well!.... Red Sox said he thought I was dead :D. This Vertigo stuff is crazy. But I have exercises I need to do and the doc said this goes away. We shall see, but how else do ya fix it anyhow???? Brain Surgery, ear surgery??
Always bugs me now...............

It hurts Dr. Fabio to see any of his friends not get what they want out of life. Don't give up yet Steve.
What's the first step to diagnosing anything? The first step is eliminating as many variables as possible. In this day and age where the almighty pharm run the show, good luck finding a doctor who will tell you the dangers of all the chemicals they gladly prescribe to you, the chemicals you should be so lucky for them to "let" you acquire. They're taught it in school, then they pass the info off to you. The stuff's harmless, right? Sure it is. Big pharm says so and Uncle Sam's backing them up. That's like McDonalds telling you a strictly cheeseburger diet is the best thing for you right now. If you don't take their word for it, Burger King will gladly back them up.
Steve you have to take a look at the big picture here. I don't know your exact lifestyle and I have no idea the doctor you saw, but did they ask you about any outside influences in your life that may have such an effect on you? If they asked, did you tell them that you do drink and have more than one prescription? Drinking is one very reliable source of vertigo. I have double checked this theory and even set out to prove it wrong myself. Every time, same result. I'm still working on that one though.
What you and almost all of the rest of this country does not realize is the dangers of the chemicals we ingest on a daily basis. The doctor tells you to "Just" take one of these, it'll "only" do this to you. It's all pooh poohed and brushed off as if it's everyday business, because now it is, and that's exactly what they wanted. What easier way to have a constant stream of endless currency with such a tiny effort. They sell you pills that once put into production and development fees are covered will net them BILLIONS in a steady inflow of money. If you're "lucky" enough that insurance covers it, why then you're even more grateful that the dear doctor has your cure in a pill form. That's how Uncle Sam operates. He doesn't exactly steal from you, but he makes you happy to hand over your money. Perhaps they have a pill you can take to cure vertigo?
I have been on prescriptions over the last year, albeit briefly. I know what it does to me and I'll have no part of it. I know what happens when I drink on prescriptions as well, and I know what happens to you when you drink on prescriptions. The problem is Steve, I'm not sure you realize what happens to you when you drink on prescriptions. Drinking lightly on ONE prescription has a profound effect on the human body. Add more alcohol and more pills, add to the problems. I've shared my opinion before about pills and drinking, and doing both together. A lot of people are under the guise that I "only" take such and such, and it's "just" a pill for this and that, no big deal. Well no, sometimes it's not a big deal, until it becomes a big deal that is. I've had many, many conversations with you about stuff like this Steve, and every time I ask the same thing. I ask you to stop taking whatever pills you may be on and see how you feel. Now when I say stop, I mean the right way obviously. I don't need you keeling over just yet, we still gotta work out your will. Every time we talk about this and I think I may have gotten through to you, you always revert back to the same line, no matter where we are, what condition your mind is currently in, or whether or not you remember. Every time you tell me "I'll always be on something". That sums it all up right there. They have you hook, line, and sinker. You are their biatch. You have the exact pre programmed default answer that they want the entire country to have. "You will always need something". That is complete and total horse shite Steve.
The last time we talked about prescriptions and drinking, you told me that on the particular day we were referencing you hadn't had a pill since early that morning but you did drink that night. You suggested to me that there was no way a pill you took that morning could have such a profound effect on what happened to you that evening. I tried to explain to you that pill is in your system. It's built up. I used to be on that pill, I am personally familiar with it and what it does to you. It builds up in your system, it takes weeks to flush it out. I told you that yes, that pill you took that morning certainly would have affected what happened to you later that evening. You pooh poohed it, you didn't believe me. I'm no doctor, you don't have to listen to me, but I have been on that pill and I have drank on it. I am very familiar with it. The effects of these chemicals don't just disappear at the stroke of hour 6 or 8, they're built up inside of you. You have to realize this Steve.
If you want Dr. Fabio's advise on this matter, go back to the basics. Any monkey can swap parts and call himself a mechanic, but the true mechanic is the one who can diagnose. The first step to diagnosing your problem is to remove as many variables as possible. We know you drink. Stop drinking. We know you have scripts. Get off the scripts. What are you 40 Steve? You were healthy as a horse when I met you in 08. What all has changed so much between now and then? I bet if you got off the scripts and booze this problem would miraculously evaporate into thin air. I'd put money on it. Me personally, when I drink a lot I eventually get DIZZY and LOSE MY BALANCE. If I were on a prescription the same thing would happen, only faster and the effects would be multiplied. Did the doctor ask you if you drink or are on any scripts? If so, did you answer her as honestly as you possibly can? Not that it matters that much if she asked about the scripts. After all, they "only" have you on so and so.

I m going to see a surgeon about getting open heart surgery Monday and I'm only 42 and trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro scared. I have 3 blockages one is 100% one is 99% and the last one is 50%.
I had bypass surgery on my colon 2 years ago. Had blockages to my artery's 100% 99% and 30% I'm lucky they found out before my colon died I fell asleep sitting up hunched over and pinched the 30% artery from feeding blood to my colon woke up in so much pain because my colon inflamed went to the er and was admitted. Local Dr tell me hes not doing surgery but if the last artery blocks your dead but if you have any problems call then sets up a appointment for 6 months. So me and my wife go home she looks for another Dr in Philadelphia make a appointment went in and they told me I had 2 option stints or bypass I took the bypass what ever will last the longest. After surgery they told my wife my artery's are smaller then normal say a normal artery is 1/2 inch mine is a 1/4 inch. Now I have high-blood pressure high cholesterol, diabetes. I'm on numerous pills. All they keep saying my at my age its not normal so what I'm 42 I'm not looking forward to this at all.

My thoughts are with you. Wish I could do/say more.. I just hope and pray all goes well for you... It really sucks the road that is laid out for a LOT of people. I have 2 Daughters,a Wife, and a Brother who are mentally and physically challenged. Add to that a Nephew who is Mentally challenged. And he comes and stays with us every Christmas season. We dropped him back off yesterday. And I am 110% completely and totally spent..When the mentally challenged are together,,they egg each other on and antagonize each other. But it's not about me. It's about watching these poor friggin people struggle through EVERY freaking second of every freaking day . RIDE? Sh!t they wish. They can't hardly dress themselves. or walk down our wheelchair ramp on the ice by themselves..And poor Jays wants me to get to building and posting pics lol... Anyhow,, Steve O, As usual,I'm with Fabio. And also,I have no clue what all meds you are on. But if it is very few.It May not be a coincidence that you took that shot and now feel this way. Definitely take that helmet in to show the Neurologist!!! I wish you ALL the best. As always,My Brothers in here chanting and I've gotta go.

Hey DC.
NOthing wrong with a quick CT scan.
Ya know, just to rule out lord knowwhat.
Balance, other than inner ear or brain stuff, comes from joint position sense.
The reason you know where your finger is pointing without looking, the pressure sensors in the joints tell your brain where stuff is.
I fall over when I'm real stable/steady and leaning on stuff. but Never when my joints are 'loaded' ie, with pressure on them.
Ther was a study with cute lil' monkeys.
They anestitized their optic and audio nerves and the monekys would not fall over on rocker boards.
No visual or inner ear clues...so the got some lunch and new monkeys and more grant $ ans simply numbed the joints in their necks and the monkeys couldn't stand up on flat level floor.
The neck joints are also hard wired to the 3 main pelvic stabilizer muscles, like 3 guy wires holding up your tv antenna.
Could simply be inflammation somewhere like pouring salt water on your computer boards cross talking.
I'll keep thinking, if this isn't too annoying to you.
I have the same thing, lots o' free time so I looked into it as much as I could so far.
