Thoughts on Chinese reproduction master cylinders?

One part I contemplated buying for my 2014 was a Chinese reproduction from ebay. I don't usually trust Chinese stuff, but I wanted the opinion of you guys before I did anything. I can spend the $30 and test it out or pass and spend some major money on some oem parts. Anything appreciated.

Can’t rebuild yours? That would be my first choice.

I deal with Chinese suppliers daily and I guarantee you that whatever component is most expensive to make in that assembly is not going to be up to the standards you would like it to be. The thing is it’s NOT the manufactures fault. The blame lies with the buyers that want a price advantage over everyone else and are willing to sign off on a substandard product. I my opinion the Chinese can make ANYTHING, but when the make a part properly it ends up costing the same as it does when a American or Japanese company builds it. Being that this is a braking component that could save (or not) your life one day I’d pass on this one. My er Yuan

If your talking about the front, I am running one from a yfz on my x and they are easily found. Seams like someone was making a reproduction for the rear.

I bought a Chinese front master cylinder for my trike and it works fine so far. looks like the same handle, fluid reservoir, lid, handle bar clamp. I trust it enough to buy another one.

I have looked at Ebay ones and some offer a free rebuild kit with a brand new unit..... guess the people making them have a lot of faith in what they sell :wondering

i used them a lot in my son's racing ATV. we have to replace them each season as the seals tend to tear easily and start leaking and not holding pressure anymore or let fluid out at the master for the rear brakes. I would venture to say that you can probably get 2-4 years of use out of them before you have to replace them and being only an average of $15-$20 for new, I would also say that's a dang good deal. the rebuild it is already $30.
Remember we are pounding the hell out of them on the race quad so if they can take a season or 2 of that, i am sure they will be fine for normal pleasure riding.

If you’re confident that their failure can be predicted, that’s cool, but I’m not that brave when it comes to brakes.

I had a brake line blow out on my pickup truck years back in the city. I managed to jump on the parking brake in time to avoid blowing a stop sign and entering Main St. broad side in traffic. I had a face to face with Jesus day and in that brief meeting he gave me two pieces of advice:
1) Always use good quality brake components
2) Go change your shorts before you stain your truck seat

If its the front master cylinder cant you pretty much use whatever OEM you want?? I put a yfz450 master on my Tri Z that way I could run ASV levers. The master cost me $24 delivered off ebay, and it looks trick. Plus I was able to buy a works connection cover for it (looks trick with the ASV's). Anything with the right size banjo bolt hole should work right??? Otherwise rebuild your OEM one with a kit, will last another 30 years Im sure :lol:

Such as an estate sale I recently went to, all the CHINA machinist tools I told them I'd pay 25 cents on the dollar. Japan is great, many different dirt bike and quad masters can be used.

If you could get a short block 350 for 300$ but it came with new pistons,rods,cam etc. for a future rebuild, wouldn't you ask yourself WHY!!??

Brakes caused my accident. My lever had been replaced, it was hard to find because a friend made it look great for me. I found a lever, I bled the brakes and they worked nice and firm. After I crashed which I am still suffering from, Tecate Dan said he rode it back and the front brake wasn't working. I use the front brake more than the rear...........
