I am about to weld a custom plastic light bar/lighting system the the front of my 250es Big Red Rack. I've got two lights on the rear rack for lighting during night rides and would like a little extra to the front. I have already swapped the stock headlight bulb for an LED and the tail lights to LED so I can run the lights for a long time without worrying about my battery going down. Also going to make a nice spot to put the GoPro in this rack setup.
Anyone out there done anything like this, or any modifications to to their front rack on their 3 wheeler for that matter. Thanks for the input in advance. 184010

Nope, just thought about it however.
I was following neighbor with no taillight lense and it was annoying as he&^%.
I have a couple lights I'd like to mount on the back rack too, but with a switch.
Front?
I got some fog lights I may try to hook up since I have them but the led thing is THE way to go foir sure.
Did you see a post recently with led headlight? Impressive for sure.
Search key maybe?
I think I have H4 halogen in my BR 45? maybe 55 watt and I let it light up the barn for at least an hour. Not sure whay it e started but the old battery (3-4 years at least) didn't flinch and fired it right up.

The picture I posted is of my LED headlight. I have two small LED fog lights mounted to back rack under my rack bag that are switched. I got my LED off of Amazon (2 for $10). Yes, LED is the way to go. I am going to make something out of plastic welded like a custom light rack and make it look good. Even thought of wiring a USB to the rack that will allow me to plug my GoPro in and not have to worry about battery. Probably overkill but hey why not...

These are what I am going to put on the front rack I believe. 184097

What are you using for an LED replacement in the stock headlight? Any mods to make it work or did you find a direct replacement?
I have been trying to find an LED replacement to the stock bulb for my 200ES for a couple years now, but nobody seems to make the right type. Isn't the 250ES that same oddball bulb?

Some quick Googling suggests the 250ES is an H4 bulb, a search on Amazon turns up this: http://www.amazon.com/Generic-LED-18-H4-6000K-Xenon-White/dp/B002OO2B1G/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1389322438&sr=1-2&keywords=h4+led+bulb
Those look exactly like what afdfirefighter has pictured. I'm not sure what a 200ES uses for a bulb, but if it's an H4 then those should work.

Have you tried them yet? Someone said they are not bright enough for use as a headlight in the reviews.

Yes I have tried them. They are almost as bright as the halogen. But they do lack just a tad bit of light. They are good enough for driving at night. But I like to ride trails and woods at night, so that is why I am putting two more LEDs in the front. My main reason for LED is to use them and not have to worry about my battery. I also use my big red for when I'm hunting. So I have to use my light at night I do shoot a deer I have to leave it running to have light long enough. I think the LED will solve my solution and let me run the light longer than I would need to.

I got the lights installed. They are bigger than I originally anticipated but they are the brightest lights I've ever seen. Can't wait to get them in the woods at night. Got the gopro mounted in between them as well. Even got the light in the speedo converted to led. Should be able to let these lights stay on for quite a while without worrying about killing the battery. Yes they make the headlight look like a child's night light. 184773184774

Nice, those are the square version of the round ones that i have, same guts just different housing. Are they the 90 degree floods or the 60 degree spots? I like how you spread them out farter with the bar. Looks good

Updated the pics so they weren't rotated. The description for them was: Tuff LED Lights 2 X 4" Inch Square 27watt LED Work Lamp Light 1550 Lumen, Off Road, Atv, Utv, Polaris Ranger. So they are only 27w and 1550 Lumens. Haven't had them in the woods to see what kind of lighting degree I am getting with them. Will deft. post a gopro video once I do of the difference in on/off.
I thought that LED's had overheating problems unless they have a heat sink, so a good thing would be to run for like an hour and see what kind of heat they are making. The heat is not from the light produced (like an incandescent) but rather is at the base and behind the bulb. Get back to us if you could test them like that, maybe riding (air flowing) and sitting (stagnant air)
Nice BR btw!

Thank you. This is the back of the LED. Not sure that it is a heat sink, but it appears to be used as one. What do you think?184779
Yep thats a heat sink (as long as its metal). You're fine.
It should be aluminum, IDK if it's just me but it looks plastic in the picture.

Yes it is metal. They are nice and heavy duty. can't wait to get a video while riding with and without them on.

I have these same lights in the round version, they are a solid heavy block of finned aluminum. I have been using them for almost two years now, moving, sitting still, they get warm but never overly hot. Really good lights for the money.

The funny thing is Hella is now rebranding them and selling them as their own. They are not Hella made, they are made by one of the large led light manufacturers in China. So far i haven't had any issues with them. I have a 18w round flood version of these lights on my walk behind snowblower, thats been on there for four seasons now and takes quite a beating from vibration when running. I have been very impressed with their quality.
I added a 18w to the back of my 200ES for plowing, needed some backup light, about a week ago and it sure makes it nice working in the dark. I plan on getting some more of the 27w floods for my Jeep, need some rear facing light for working. Would be nice to have some cargo lights for when i am pulling a trailer. Maybe wire one into the reverse circuit as a backup light, etc. They are so affordable, i have got them for less than $30 each on eBay.

You should post some pics. I am thinking of putting one in my trailer as well. I am about to buy a triangular tongue box and I think on the inside of the box I will add a switch and have one light in the bed of the trailer and one in the inside of the box. I have a single stage snowblower or it would have one also. I do have a 33" walk behind mower that I end up finishing the neighbors yards at night which means thats a perfect excuse to mount a couple on it for more light. Who knows where they will end up next :) the pair on the front of my big red were $50 shipped.
not the best pic but you can see my LEDs and where they are mounted on the front of the factory rack.

Here is the pair of 27w units on my 200ES, one is a 60 degree spot and the other is a 90 degree flood, makes for a nice combo and a larger lit area in front. I don't have a pic of the 18w on the back yet, i just got it done last week and its just been to dang cold to go out and snap a pic. Might have to do some plowing tomorrow though so then i can get a picture of it in use.

Here is the 18w version on my walk behind snowblower, its an old 73 Craftsman 28 inch cut, has the extra drift chipper above the main auger, does great on the deep stuff, actually even better than my big lawn tractor blower because this old Craftsman is chain drive from the motor to the blower and augers. It has a centrifugal chain clutch on the motor just like a go kart motor setup. Thats the main reason it goes through stuff my other blower cant, the other one will get too much of a load on it and the belts will slip, on this one it will go until the motor dies. I repowered it with a new 7hp DuroMax motor i got off ebay, its a clone of the Honda GX series motor. The original Tecumseh motor was getting weak and nearly due for another overhaul so i decided it did enough. Plus i was able to add a battery and electric start, turn the key and go!
