Lc r pipe install problems?

I have a older sectional pipe and fmf silencer that I am trying to mount up. The pipe seams to fit fine but I can't get the silencer to slide on. Seams like it going to put it at the wrong angel. Is there some trick to mounting these things up? Having problems post pics from my phone but can here in a few if that would help.

Also it's a 85 idk if that makes a difference. Did they make pipes that had to use certain silencers? The more I look at it there is no way they are going to fit together.

pipe and silencer fit is not equal between brands, I had to heat up and tweak both my FMF silencers when mounting to old pipes, one was a PT and I think the other was a Coffmans pipe. Coffman silencer fit perfect but not the FMF.

Looks like that's what I am going to do. They are so far off I thought maybe I was overlooking something. Thanks
