Awesome build. Looks like at some point in it's life, someone put some 85 parts on it.

This brings back a LOT of memories...I remember being that little kid on that same trike (85, see avatar) sitting in that same spot when I was young.

Slash -not sure if the pic above is appropriate? Two riders no helmets.... I see that they could be posing and just sitting on it.... I don't know the rules on that. yes that is a pose not even running and my boy is only 3 lol
Edit: he loves sitting on it and making race car noises... might have to get him a zinger

yeah I just put down 1.5k on parts so I can get to my cr250 and kx before spring lol I was lazy for a bit when I should have been prepping for spring. gotta put a pro circuit exhaust and rad valve on cr an rings in kx
BTW notice the drain below the atc in one of the pics? don't do that. took me 45 minutes to dig all the headtube bearings out of there when I pulled the neck apart...
DohcBikes
01-31-2014, 08:44 PM
Loki on the steering bearings, you might already know this but you can get the tapered bearings for the 200x, they make turning smoother and they are more durable.
slashfan7964
01-31-2014, 09:16 PM
Deleted for good measure.
lokisbuddy
01-31-2014, 09:34 PM
hmmm can you post a link to those bearings please?
Edit: nvmi don't need a link I just found them on ebay got a set made by all balls for 30 bucks :) now all I am missing is a swing arm bolt
DohcBikes
01-31-2014, 10:45 PM
Yep those are the ones! Of course be sure to knock the old races out of the neck, and take the bottom washer off of the stem before you install the lower tapered bearing or it won't fit quite right.
DohcBikes
01-31-2014, 10:50 PM
As far as the swingarm bolt goes, here's a little eBay trick.....look for swing arms instead. Often times uneducated sellers will include the hard to find bolt WITH a swingarm, which usually sell for about $30. Then you have an extra swingarm to mess around with too!

that's a good idea
Those are the only kind I have.....LOL not true.... but I should've said "sometimes" you can find them together.
Keep in mind that you can build and prep 90% of the trike before you NEED that bolt, so look regularly and I expect you will find a swingarm including a bolt before you know it. Good luck!
lokisbuddy
01-31-2014, 11:10 PM
ty. I wont need the bolt for another week. its crazy they want 30 bucks for a bolt I could have maid for around 10 = 15
Edit: half my keys don't work right.
DohcBikes
02-01-2014, 12:43 AM
I should have worded that differently, the bolt alone has been known to go for much higher than $30, but 84 and 85 200x swing arms are usually pretty cheap, and sometimes you get lucky and the bolts included.
MNhondaguy
02-01-2014, 04:25 AM
I search 200x. Start at the cheapest, including auctions. People tend to sell all the bolts and random stuff together that goes fairly cheap. And I believe captainweezy has 200x he's parting on the for sale threads.

Are you planning on making this into a nice rider or?
Man you work so much faster than me LOL, do you not have a job or something? You work super quick and it looks amazing, I'm jealous!
It took me a week or so just to get the frame stripped down, and I can do my own blasting but I don't have a recycling system (i.e. a cabinet) so its not worth it to do the frame myself
I'm looking forward to seeing this finished as it is incentive for my own X LOL

I plan on making a trail bike out of her ultimately she will get a cr 250 engine but for now just a trail bike. I have a 600 grizzly that needs tires and battery, a 700 grizz that needs new tires and tune up, a gator that needs rings , a cr 250 that needs rings a pipe and a boyesen rad valve and a kx 80 that needs paint and rings then after all that I ha 5 sl500s that need put back together. so engine will have to wait I put a lot of dough into parts cant wait till they get here :)

one thing I can say about this paint is make damn sure you get 0 moisture into the paint whether from gun or humidity this trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro likes to orange peel like a mofo
DohcBikes
02-03-2014, 10:22 PM
Also ambient temperature wherever you are shooting the paint will determine the amount of orange peel you are getting. Colder it is the worse it is.

Any ideas of what you want it to look like when it's done before you swap the motor? I have seen a CR125 motor swapped in, that was pretty cool.
lokisbuddy
02-03-2014, 10:31 PM
yeah when I get my cr 250 put in it will have a +2 swinger +2 axle other than that it will be as is except on a dif frame with motor mounts modded and it will have a moded pro circuit pipe. gonna be a lot of work. thinking liquid cooled not for sure. if I go liquid she will change drastically.
slashfan7964
02-03-2014, 10:35 PM
I've never been a fan of extended swingers but the +2 axle might be cool. Will definitely be an interesting build for sure.

looks like it should turn out way nicer then when you 1st got it. dont use 22s in the rear however, these bikes like smaller tires.

Thats why I'm waiting until spring until I start painting everything on mine. My garage isnt 24/7 heated but with the furnace and the turbo heater it will get around 60. And I have to blast outside so spring is nice for that as well. Black diamond, great stuff! I have been using HPA 80 lately and it is more expensive but the results are fantastic. It's main use if for sand in a waterjet so it is very fine but still cuts like a hot knife through butter

+1 here----the difference in handling between 22s and 20s is pretty drastic on the 200x. I'm actually going to run 18s and taller gearing on the X I'm building now.

The motor paint is spray can but if it looks nice im gonna powder coat.
Edit: frame In above pic is covered in saw dust from the table saw.
You ordered the wrong front fender! That one is for an 86-87 X and will not bolt up unless you're running that front end.
If you want that skinny fender look, the 85-86 250r fender bolts right up.
lokisbuddy
02-04-2014, 10:00 PM
There are no holes drilled so I'm pretty sure it will bolt to whatever i want ;)
Well if/when you run into problems...
oldskool83
02-05-2014, 09:37 AM
86-87 fender will bolt up, holes are the same locations.
This is an 83-85 Fender
185882
This is 86-87
185883
Definitely not the same bolt pattern, and I'm not sure if you can drill holes in the right locations because of the shape of the fender
DohcBikes
02-05-2014, 12:27 PM
A Honda 86-87 fender will not bolt up, just like rg97 says, and shows;)
However the Maier 86-87 fender does not come predrilled, just like lokisbuddy says:)
It has been done.
But really instead of doing guesswork for drilling that may not be easily compatible, you're better off returning the one you have (unless you cant return it then ignore this) getting a 85-86 R fender. They look pretty much the same. just my honest opinion.
In white this is what they look like.

Looks awesome! Little thing with the motor, it's all black except for a few fins up on the head.
You've got the 86-87 fender one there now, please tell me you are going to retro fit an 86-87 rear on it. I'm not much of a fan of mismatched fenders but it's not my trike to gripe about. I have faith you'll make it look good.

02-05-2014, 09:38 PM
All the fins are bare allum. as for matching rear.. prepare to be dissapointed bevcause when i have the coin to spare I'm putting a modded set of rears from a 525 outlaw on it with outlaw seat. was looking at my buddies today and i know how I'm gonna do it. sadly he wouldn't let me "show him" on his set.

Compression looks fine. It will go up some as the rings break in.
Just be sure to have the throttle wide open and the choke off or open to achieve the max reading.
You said you used a .020 Wiseco piston that was ran in an xr200 for six years, its not a new top end:D

DohcBikes
02-21-2014, 11:12 PM
Really? Maybe I have the mm wrong but they look exactly like the 85 200s hubs I have here.
I'd recommend just check the plug on the pilot. If you end up 3 turns out on the fuel screw then go up a size on the pilot.
Forgive me but I hate writing out jetting procedures so maybe someone wants to go through all that.
My best advice is always to change ONE THING AT A TIME, and record your results on paper. If it works do it more. If it don't, do it less.
lokisbuddy
02-22-2014, 12:23 AM
yeah I know how to jet an engine just figured if you knew the best setting off hand I wouldn't have to experiment. im at a 120 main right now and its a bit rich so im going down to a 112

they could be 200s hubs I will dig my 200s out of the barn later and check but they do fit the paddle tire rims I use on my banshee I know that much.
Edit: thanks for all the help you have offered thus far :) Been a minute since ive messed with an x last one I had was a stroker my uncle built. this one will ultimately have a vlaster bottom end with vitos 240 kit, 3mm stroker, fat ba stard pipe and silencer, boyesen rad valve, and 30mm carb cant wait till that day. I just need to find a blaster bottom end.

Did you by chance bend the living hell out of your seat pan to get it to lay flat against the tank...:D
lokisbuddy
03-01-2014, 02:00 AM
Yeah took a heat gun to the pan and flattened it right out the put the foam and cover on. got sick of that big ass gap. not sure what the gap was even from. and the fenders will ultimately be 525 outlaw rears or maybe raptor but these will suffice for now. thanks for all the positive feedback.
DohcBikes
03-01-2014, 02:12 AM
The gap is something that happens over time due to warpage from exposure and the tension from the seat cover pulling on it. Unless they are basically mint condition they all seem to do that.

Yeah I had a 240 stroked blaster back in the day then traded it in on a banshee, the motor was sweet tits but the quad was meh... I think a 250 stroked blaster in a 200x will be greased lightning. thanks for the compliment on the 200x :) I went 2100 over budget on the build (2200 over if captain sells me his rear brake setup aas I have none right now) but you know how it goes. tell the old lady I stayed in budget then when she eventually sees the bank statements and receipts "why you bringing up old stuff?" lol
