Well we just picked up an 83 200E for my buddy for 200 bucks. Its all complete but I have some issues. I cleaned the carb and It runs but it runs pretty poorly, It will not idle. I pulled the plug and it looks reallly rich, so I pulled the air filter off and it runs better but will still stall if you don't hit the gas. Another thing I noticed was that when you rev it the headlight dims, and when it starts to stall the headlight brightens way up. I am not sure if the running issue is electrical, or carb issues, but I know for certain that the headlight should not brighten when its stalling and dim when its revved, LOL. Also Im going to go through the front forks as there seized up. I do not see pinch bolts like my 250es at the top of the "triples." How do I pull the forks out?
Thanks in advance guys!!

I think it would stand to reason that if you weren't getting enough spark at idle to efficiently burn the fuel, and when you rev it it wants all the power just to make good spark....that it would cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
If it were me, and I had already thoroughly cleaned the carb and set the idle, float and fuel mix properly, I would run tests on the coils.

I have honestly never heard of the headlight ordeal you have. The light runs off the battery, while the coil "charges" the batt. If the battery is not hooked up the lights will not work. At least mine doesn't. Try turning the lights off, maybe that will have an effect?
Ad the forks on this model are no good, at least compared to the aluminum tube soft fronts.
Front wheel, brakes, bars, light and all the stuff removed. Loosen the chrome nut on to triple. There is 2 bolts atop the top triple going into each fork leg, remove those. The top triple can then be removed. Once that's off, remove the upper inner bearing race, it threads off the stem. Then the fork assembly will slide out the bottom. Now is where I stopped, because mine were trashed and bent and I tossed em and put a 200x front on. Once you get it this far, chances are you will figure out how to get the tubes apart. They are not oil filled, just springs. Yu might be able to get new springs and bushings but I am not certain.
Hope this helps.
