My brothers Big Red has a very tight turning radius.... My 250 SX is atleast twice as wide if not more. Has anyone cut or ground down the stops that are part of the front fork to allow the bars to turn more?

Your bars will hit the tank if you do depending on how they are set..

the wheels spacers are doing it. if its wider than the BR, its got spacers. i had an 85 250SX with spacers and its turning radius sucked until the spacers were removed.

Hey... can you explain that? It looks like I have a spacer on the right side of the wheel... the left side is up against front brake drum. The stops that are on triple clamps are what keep the bars/wheel from turning sharper. When full turned my bars are about 1" from tank. no??

Please elaborate manbearpig. From what you describe... All I can picture is the hub wobbling loose and being very dangerous.

Soxsuck… you made it sound like you have wheel spacers on you REAR axle. I believe manbear is talking about removing those.

No... sorry I did not mean for anyone to think I had wheel spacers on the back. The machine is completely stock. The turing radius I would say is about 15-17 feet (width of area to do a complete U-Turn). My brothers Big Red can do a U-Turn in about 8 feet !! There are welded stops on the front fork triple tree clamps that prevent the bars from over rotating. I just want to see if anyone modifed (ground them down further) to improve turning. Obviously I would have to consider this so the bars dont smash the tank. How sharp should my SX turn.... ? Is this normal?

I'm just curious...
When you are making the turn. Is your front tire turning, or sliding from being pushed? Also, is your brother breaking the rear end loose when he turns? Have his steering stops been modified? What speed is all this happening at?
All stuff to consider.

yes, you made it seem like the spacers were on the REAR and thats what my experience was. i had an 85sx with spacers on the REAR and turning radius sucked until they were removed. sorry for the confusion

A SX will turn inside a ES radius. You are either pushing the front and need a new tire. or someone has welded extra stops on your triples. this is one time,,I will say. We NEED pics. You have a very simple problem that will be resolved easily. Probably with a fresh new tire on the front.

Could the profile of the rear tires affect this? I would think that a flatter rear tread design would act almost like a wider axle ( or spacers) compared to a more traditional, rounded cross-section knobby rear tire. Just my 2 cents.

Another vote for simple tire pushing here. Rider technique could also be playing a role. Have you let your buddy drive yours to see if he can make a tighter turn than you?

PICS.
Put them nose to nose, then turn them both, you should be able to see what's going on.
My vote is also that you are pushing your front tire as well. My 225dx would not turn when I first bought it, it had a wide flat mud tire mounted backwards, simply changing it to a nobby made a huge difference, night and day.
