great pics! looks like fun. wish i was in the area for the derby! but i had my 3 wheeler out on the ice this weekend at the yearly polar plunge in dracut ma. i bet you could wheelie alot easier if you had your left foot on the back rack

How well do the tracks work when there is more than a tiny bit of snow?

What did u use and how did u attack those snowmachine tracks to your tires, And how did u get them to stay on? This would be the perfect solution for my 2 ,85 BR,s from sittin in the garage for 8 bloody cold months of the year!!!

I was fishing out on Meredith Bay.

There was 12+" on the ice where we hadn't already packed. They go awesome! Climbing over snow banks. Perfect for snowmobile trails and actually leaves them with kind of a groomed look.

We had access to 2 ski doo scandic long track sleds. They were way to wide so we cut them down to 16" which worked out perfect because the tires fit right between the nubbs on the inside of the track. We used sno cat track buckles to attach them with all the air out of the tires and then blew them up. They are locked on there good. Not going anywhere. They are heavy and rough riding but I was still cruising the lakes in 4th...

Got a pic of these buckles? Iv got everything else to duplicate this, but have absolutely no idea what these buckles are , let alone what a sno-cat is...I should...I live far enough North...lol
Have u tried them in deep snow? And when I say deep, I mean like 2 feet or more?

Only been in about a foot to 14" of snow with them. They go. I think its best to have tracks with high rubber, like 1 1/2"

No go... I couldn't make it over the snow banks I plowed... Too tired from plowing the past couple days to deal with getting stuck. I just turned around and parked it.

I took it out on the lake today. Got out in the 2' of horrible snow with my trailer attached, started wheeling on me but the trailer was keeping me from going over... Just first gear letting it eat and SNAP!

They are just too heavy. I bet each tire weighs 80-100lbs

So it looks like the axle broke. Have you determined if the hub is bad as well? That really sucks.
kebby28
02-17-2014, 12:46 AM
I think the hub is ok. it had a little play in it when I checked last week. Should be able to just throw a new axle in it and never put those heavy a** tracks on again...

Make sure that you do a bearing and seal kit while it's apart! I put grease fittings on my axle housing while I had it apart. There are two sets of bearings on each end. One side is bigger than the other. Stop me if you already know this.

I just put new bearings and seals over last summer but I love your grease fitting idea! Anyway you could take a picture so I can see where you drilled?

187049187050 here go... Sorry iPhone pic with flash in dark garage. I made the mistake of pumping half a tube of marine grease in there right after I installed the new bearings, seals, and the fittings. The grease got into the differential lube past a seal. I had to take the axle housing apart and scoop out about a cup of grease. So don't be like me and get crazy trying to fill the entire tube with the lovely blue stuff. ;)

I don't see how extra wheel weight is any different than 25 yrs of someone beating
an sx or es to near death.
Was it super cold?
Maybe cracked before?
Still sorry for your breakdown.
Did ya get a ride home at least?
