love these bikes. they truly did revolutionize the motorcycle industry. I restored 1, am building 2 and own about 3 more in parts. if you have never ridden one, do so, the power is amazing for something so old. and super reliable. I rode to work in 16 degrees 1 January morning. my truck and my car would not start, I said to myself "if the bike starts ill ride it." the d@mn thing fired immediately. good thing there was a fire going when I got there.
I had heard of the early bikes having sandcast motors and being sought after but the info on that sale has really enlightened me of the early history of these bikes. so thanks for posting. that bike surely is worth every penny being such an important piece of history.
Im willing to bet they didnt knowingly scrap a 1 of 4 prototype.... unless the other three owners conspired to steal the red one and took it to the junkyard to make theirs worth more:shiftyeyes::shiftyeyes::shiftyeyes:
