I replaced the shifter shaft because of splines being striped. Since then shifter has had a lot of play in it. Have adjusted the clutch lifting mechanism, which help some, but shifter still has about an inch of play before shifter engages. What could I have missed when installing shaft. Anything could be helpful.

is the shifter tight on the shaft with no play?
if so, i would tighten the adjuster until the shifter only moves around 3/8" in each direction before it feels hard.

Well in that case, I would take it apart, look at the parts fiches below and see what is wrong.

Free online manual. Might take 7 minutes to load.
