cannot be imported any longer. they may exist here as we have lots around.
If they did bring one accross it was a mistake by the customs guys,
SSSSHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I know that someone in Saskatchewan was selling them in the eighties.

umm as far as I know that is BS, I have heard talk about it, but never heard anything about it yet. The cops have tried to stop me before but I dont think it is because I am driving on 3 wheels!

I am sure it will happen someitme. The ATV federation of New Brunswick has now put in place that all ATV must carry insurance. Thats great but what about 3 wheelers. I have my Big Red licenced and registered but no insurance company will insure 3 wheelers. So what is the sense of me renewing my licence for $41.00 if I can't ride on the trails without insurance. I am going to take this to the President of the ATV federation. Its sad to say but we are all going to feel this. We all better be ready for a fight.

This might pertain to how I got my first trike. A guy from canada came to duluth, MN to buy a atc 70, got to the boarder crossing back to canada and they told him he couldn't bring it into canada. Luckly he knew someone in my town which is about 30 miles from the border so he left it at their house, my dad knew the guy who's house he left it at and we bought it. I'm guessing this was around '93 or so???

I don't think Nationwide offers insurance in Canada. I looked on their web site.

From what I've heard, all 3wheelers taken by the Crown will have their frames chopped in half so they won't be usable. Most of the officers around her are nice and don't bother with you as long as your not endangering anybody, its the Game Wardens that you worry about meeting. As far as insurance goes I'm hoping I can insure the Tecate.

dont stop = dont get taken away LOL, no but really I have never heard this law, although I did hear a rumor about the frame thing, this was in Ontario that the rumor was coming from. Mines not registered, if they catch me, there wont be much left (cause i will do what i have to, to get away), so they can just have it then lol.

Hello, never heard of outlawing 3-wheelers. A freind of mine fixes trikes up, and sometimes sells them to the USA, as recently as last spring, without incident.

I live in new brunswick canada, and I have my 185s liscenced and INSURED. I don't know how all of you got 3 wheelers are outlawed in canada and will be chopped up, what i read from the post was that they are outlawed from being IMPORTED. which would be the CPSC ban from 1987, don't you all remember, the ban made it so you couldn't import them. I don't know if that considers bringing them from the states to canada importing them, but i know lots of ppl with three wheelers around here and they are in no way at risk of being impounded and chopped up unless they piss off a crazy neighbor.

I'm in New Brunswick and the cheapest insurance I can get is $350 -- for a '83 185s!
If any of you local boys can tell me where I can get cheaper insurance, I'd appreciate it.
When I bought the bike my insurer said it would be no problem, about $89 per year. Then they mailed me my pink card. Later they called me up and said they were mistaken, that no one will touch a three-wheeler except the facility association. (The facility association is the group of insurers known as "the insurance of last resort," ie, drunk drivers, drivers with multiple crashes, etc...) Of course their rates are very, very high. I canceled the insurance and kept the pink card (proof of insurance) so if the cops or game wardens stop me, I can show them my card, at least.
But legally I got no insurance.

So you NBers, if you found insurance for your trike, please let me know where from and at what cost. I'll need some when my (invalid) pink card expires.

Well I'll be jiggered.
It is indeed illegal to import trikes into Canada, says Jacinthe LeBlanc of the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.
"It's a regulation by Transport Canada," she told me two minutes ago.

Next thing they'll outlaw is pointy sticks.

I personally know 2 people who drove down to the states, bought, and brought up two trikes. Never had a problem.

I have to call B.S. here.

I can't figure how it's BS when the customs agency themselves just told me it's true. Call them yourself, or DoT, for confirmation. They're in the blue pages of your phone book under Canada Customs and REvenue Agency.
Maybe some customs agents don't know about this rule, though.

Only in Canada. To show how bad it is. I had tried to get my 200M registered because it never was. I contacted the Regist. office to find out what to do. The first call told me to have the bill of sale and get the trike appraised by your dealer. The next call was to have the seller come in and sign it over to me. The next call was to have the seller come in and register it (pay the taxes) then sign it over to me and then I pay the taxes. So then I called again saing it was mine and I just rebuilt it and they told me to call a guy who will come and look it over and then I would get it appraised and then pay taxes.

When I bought my 85 Big Red which was licenced. I had to get it appraised and then pay the taxes. My nephew bought a 110 that was licenced and they justed walked in and registered it into their name. No appraisel.

From my experience no one knows what the deal is.

Just venting. If anyone in this area knows where to get insurance (reaonable) let us know.

It is possible to import trikes into Canada. I did so last just year. there is however, an import ban on any 3 wheeler built post 1987. To get the details, go tto the nearest Customs office, and have a go through their tarrifs books, and the details are all there!

Who would steal a Big Red anyway?..... ;) I won't even register my R,the gov't has enough of my money.I drive all day and don't see a soul, this is Canada, home of the tree.No one has ever asked to see my documentation on any of my bikes.Unless I'm crossing the border (on vacation with the YZ) Importing a 3-wheeler,.....its not worth the bother when parts and trikes are for sale all the time right here.

The insurance is not for theft. The RCMP will now be looking for registration and Liability insurance. We don't need insurance for theft. We must have liability insurance for riding on crown land. If you get nabbed by a mountie thats in a bad mood you can get a big fine.

I will ride regardless but if I could find liability cheap enough I would take it so I wouldn't have to be watching over my sholder while riding.

If that is a law, you know some company will insure them, but you also know some trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro will speed down a hill drunk and kill his girlfriend making the insurance so expensive noone will be able to afford it. Someone always ruins it.

When I tried to get insurance, the price they quoted me was $106.
Then they called me back saying, Oops, sorry didn't realize a 185s has only three wheels. Your new price is $350. I told 'em to stick it. (But I kept my pink card, har har. At least I got something to show the Mounties.)
I'll call Vienneau, too.
I'm told by a NBer on this board that Co-operators also quotes a price of $106.
If I was you guys, I'd not mention the part about your bike having three wheels. Let 'em figure out, because chances are they won't, heh heh.
