Got to the 350x today. Rebuilt the carb. As I adjusted the idle and let the bike warm up, I noticed some smoke coming from the headpipe area. As the bike warmed up, I noticed what I beleive to be my clutch cable melting near the headpipe!!
So my question is where is my clutch cable SUPpOSE to be located from start to finish of an install??
This was a common problem with the 85. In 86 it was routed on the left side of the engine behind the cylinder to eliminate this problem.

Cool but what does that mean for me? Lol :wondering It is an 85..
Edited:
Apon closer inspection of this "melting clutch cable" I noticed there was zip cord tie strap thing. Made of plastic and clicks when you pull it tight. A white one was half melted away on where the smoke was coming from. Lol whew!! I hope thats all it was and my clutch cable is ok now.... I hope...

I have a nearly brand new Motion Pro '85 350X clutch cable I'll sell for cheap. I bought it for my bike but I needed an '86 cable.

How about just routing it so it doesn't melt, rub, or snag on anything and functions properly when you turn the handle bars?

I should have heat shield that looks like a spring that covers the cable jacket in the area the get close to the pipe.

Yes the cable is wraped in a spring looking thing thats where the heat is.. I think it will be ok though..
