I don't know much about it. But it's a 81 xl80s
Looks like it has a Chinese carb on it was told it runs but needs tuning.
Has "custom" exhaust aswell header pipe is still there and all intact but looks like it has a lawn mower muffler welded to the end.
Just a tinker project/put around pit bike
Not going to be anything spectacular.
But I think I will use the key/ignition off this instead of my Chinese one on the big red.
This will get everything stripped off lights ect missing most of the headlight assembly anyways.

Gotta love those old Hondas, regardless of how many wheels are under them. With a little attention that will be a nice little bike!

Traded an iphone I had 30 bucks into plus 60
I think it was a "fair" trade he probably made off a little better but I'm 100 times happier with the bike then the phone

I don't think I'll be saving headlight or anything on this. Just strip it down and make it a rider
As mentioned earlier I am going to use the key ignition off this on my big red. Looked at it and it is 4 wire (not sure there all the same) I'll either need to add the bullets to this ignition or just wire it all with out connections.
Need to get carb all sorted out. Inside of tank is pretty rusted. And need to find a few bolts for left side cover. That's basically it for now. Possibly tubes for the tires but I'll start with getting it running

IT RUNS
Nothing to big for update but moved it in the yard today and thought I'd see if it ran. Gas tank still crusty rusty and not plumbed to carb yet anyways. But sprayed gas in the carb and fired first kick.
Surprisingly not to loud with the custom exhaust.
Going to look for some apple cider vinegar for the tank. And hopefully the carb dissent need to much tuning and hopefully it runs good with it.
If not a Chinese xr carb is like 20 bucks on eBay and I'll start from scratch with something I kinda know.

Nice bike. Interested in selling it?

I live in canada
And everything I own is for sale :p
I can't say no to a good offer lol
The tank is currently soaking full of cider vinegar see how it comes out. Looks like throttle cable may be a little short but re routed it and carbs not sticking wide open anymore. Might be able to fire it up tonight. But we'll see. Might leave the tank till after work tommarow.
Need to still see if I need to replace tubes in tires

It lives....kinda
Needs some work yet but was able to ride it
Only runs with choke on and can't rev it or it dies. Idles high so was rideable

Nice man prolly need to clean the carb and remove that goofy muffler it has to be restrictive but if you plan on keeping it jet it for the pipe. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the jetting is off.

Soo I decided to throw some money at this project
It has and came with stupid BMX grips on it so I went ahead and ordered theses up
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171177796417
Black ones
I still need to get it running properly. Haven't touched the bike since the weekend
I'm hoping to just "tune" the carbs and get it to run
Still need to strip off the useless junk
And want to eventually put a different muffler on. Even just a Chinese atv/motorcycle muffler but we'll see
Not going to be pouring money into this or be coming anywhere near a restoration
Just going to be a dirt bike

Well I'm thinking of swapping out the carb. The one that's on it has no adjustment. The one screw that looks like might do something is just a machine screw doesn't do anything. Probably supposed to be a needle in its place.
But thinking something like this carb

Opinions ?
Thanks

to adjust the carb you adjust the needle height there is no screw!

Thanks. Witch screw is idle and witch is mixture then ?
I may be a rookie but those 2 screws are not on this carb

so to adjust the air mixture you unscrew the throttle slide on the top of the carby and then pull the needle out from the top and there is a little c-clip on the top end which you move one way to richen and the other to lean it out (sorry I can't remember what way you move it for richer and leaner)
and for throttle adjustment can you please take some pics of the throttle I think there should be adjustment on the cable somewhere!!

I'll look into that. Sounds easy now that you say that. I tryed google and it always says"start with mix screw 1.5turns out blah blah)
The throttle slide looks like it was screwed on with a pipe wrench. Hope it's not a pain
Thanks

Here's the needle out if this carb.
I see the c clip you speak of. But no other notches to adjust

I got creative and added a plastic washer. Was a little better. I can determine now it needs to be jetted revs fine on choke. Idles on no choke but won't rev at all.
I keep talking about the Chinese carbs but anyone have any luck with them. Jetted properly ?
I'm thinking this carb wasn't spacific for xr80 line. Guy probably had it laying around

wow thats really odd everything I have worked on has had more than one notch, you may need to do a little research to see if it is the oem carb because it doesn't sound like it is

I already know it's not oem says so in first post
Kinda why I keep asking for input on ebay carb I posted earlier
Since I got nothing to loose in this carb so I might drill out the main jet

I don't know squat about an XL 80 but - how can you go wrong from $20?
That carb looks like it has idle mixture adjustment screw.
Best case it bolts on and clears up your issues and runs great with an idle mixture tweak.
Worst case, it has the wrong jets in it. In that case, look up the stockers in the manual, then buy the right pilot and main jets from jets-r-us, plus maybe a couple of different sizes larger to compensate for the "performance" exhaust.

Small update
Went with the carb posted and drilled out the jet. Runs awesome now lol
Tore out old air box. Running a uni filter. Cleaned up all wiring
I'll get pics up in a bit.
For what I got into this beast it's going to be fun
Not as fast as I remember. Mind you last time I rode one was about 12 years and 100 or so pounds ago lol
