So me and a buddy went in on an 83 250r buy...the bike was pretty trashed, but under all the rust and broken plastic lied a couple gems..

I got these..Westcoast +2 and ext. axle

Not to mention we got the rest of the bike..not bad for $550/2..

So here lies my question..does anyone know how I can take spray paint off a powder coated swing arm? I think the arms powder coated..the blue seems to be holding up much better than the black spray paint so I was thinking I might be able to remove it without messing up the original blue..


Also, where can I find some Westcoast decals?

1st off,I was so relieved to see this wasn't El's post after seeing the thread title :lol::naughty: .. But great score you got there! I 've been told by a couple restorers that PC is NO fun to get off. I would have it blasted. Or the old fashioned wire wheel and time.. Wanna sell the 300 kit ? Email me please if you would..

Try a little lacquer thinner on that spray paint.Don't put any paint remover on it.

Not the case with the 83-84 250r west coast for some reason. Mine was blue and I've seen several more blue. Good score.

Wow I didn't know the axle was a durablue..we did score...sorry 007 my buddy got the motor, I'll ask him if he wants to sell it though..stroberts did you have the swingarm on your 2nd gen R build painted white or did it come like that? And beautiful bikes by the way...know where I might be able to find some westcoast decals?

Frank Destra made the west coast decals I use. Here's his email FMNRD@aol.com. My swingarm was painted red but it was chipped showing the original blue underneath. I powder coated mine white but that is not the way it came. Mine also only has mounts for 84 linkage, yours has mounts for 83 and 84.

Every second gen 250r westcoast I've seen has been blue. Aerosol "aircraft remover" is what I use to remove powder coat because blasting is useless with powder coat. I'd be willing to bet that is original paint on that swingarm though.

OK so my buddy managed to remove the rear end by cutting the frame up(he had another one)..tried for two days to get the pivot bolt out, lost the battle but won the war..or won the battle but lost the war..either way..now I have the rear end still altogether and I need to disassemble it so I can send the arm out for paint..I've included some pics of the rear end..I'm thinking I'll probably cut the pivot bolt in-between the arm eye and the motor mount piece..but even then I'm not sure if the pivot bolt pieces will come out of the arm eyes(arm eye?)..you know what I'm sayin..and the pivot bolt will not rotate or slide back and forth at all..please help...how would you guys go about gettin this thing taken apart?? Even more specific, how would you get that pivot bolt out of the arm?? Besides just sprayin Nut Off on it..Any and all advice wanted/needed..

If it's that stuck I'd cut the center part of the bolt off and work smaller pieces out vs. friction from the other side/binding. Remove the thrust washers from the swinger, using Kroil soak the bolts and clean as much old junk out of there as you can. Beat them out it should not be too hard, or take it to someone with a press.

I have been in a similar situation. First, cut the "mushroom" off the threaded end of the pivot bolt so you have a flat surface to work with. Then clamp that swinger in a vice with soft jaws or a rag to not hurt it and then get the butane or acetylene torch out. You want to evenly heat the crap out of the entire front section. Once its smokin' hot take a BFH (I have acutally used a 16# sledge before) and a large drift (center the drift on the bolt) and make a really good whack. It should pop right out. The hotter the better so don't be stingy with the heat. Its called the heat and beat method ;)

Lol...the ol' heat and beat..been using that method for years :naughty: thanks for the help guys..I just got done beatin it with a hammer for an hour after spraying it with kroil and nothin..I'll put it in the vise tomo and try the torch method, if that doesn't work I'll take it somewhere with a press..and I was mistaken..the bolt will rotate as the bearings are still good, it just won't slide out..I was able to get the axle out very easily so it's alot easier to maneuver/work with and throw in a vise..just a couple more questions...
How do I get the bearing carrier out? What's the process there and do I need any special tools? And I took a couple pics of the axle by itself, couldn't find any markings on it..anyway to tell what it is?
