My 85 250r was missing the exhaust flange sealing ring .Iv looked for them couldnt find anything and silicone only last so long.I was given a stock banshee headpipe last year.I didnt know they used o-rings on them till I was cutting it up to use a section for my 84 200x when I noticed the o-ring.I used the o-ring on my stock 85 flange.I had to pry the headpipe on but it doesnt leak.

not a cheap fix by any means and I am sure you already did this, but in case you didn't ESR and Duncan still offer the two o-ring setup. I am migrating to this soon because I am tired of my 3rd gen splooging everywhere :)

I read over on trx250r site that you can use bdt silicone o-rings on the stock flange.Carlos said to put one in the stock groove and another on the front tapper section. He also said there is a tripple setup .

Soooo, the IPC shows a metal split ring, and, what I just picked up, a dark grey, semi metalic looking o-ring. Cheap Cycle Parts has them in stock. I there is something significantly better.... I would be interested for the future.

Stock ones were metal rings. The looked like a piston ring. The aftermarket flanges use O rings. They work better and aren't all that expensive.

I'll restate this for anybody who cares... See below... there is a seal, metalic and flexible, yet not quite an o-ring as well as a metal split ring (which does look like a piston ring)

I put the o-ring where the split ring goes. I broke my oem split ring years ago and I replaced it with a chainsaw piston ring it was the exact same size. That broke when I switched motors a few years ago .When I contacted my local Honda Dealer they said it was discontinued. The banshee o-ring seals realy good. Im thinking of ordering a set of silicone o-rings from Carlos at BTD I think you can get a multiple pack for a good deal.I am going to get some new Banshee o-rings to try on my aircooled 250rs.

I have an ESR O-ring type flange on one R and a BDT O-ring flange on the other. Both work very well and spooge is minimal at most. Not overly expensive and well worth it IMHO, especially if you are using a nice pipe that you want to stay nice. If your pipe/flange fit is loose it's going to wear on both from the vibration.

But it sounds like your setup is tight from your initial post...
